Stampede In Temple - A Close look.
Friday 03rd, October 2008
The Recent stampede in our temples, tragedy in Rajasthan's Jodhpur preceded by the Naina Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh. At least 145 Hindu worshippers were killed and 48  were injured in the stampede that occured  in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh and the death toll in the stampede at Chaminda Devi Temple in Jodhpur crossed more than 200 and left several injured.

In a country like India were religion is preached high and  always takes high priority, why does this keep happening. Is it because of the improper management or inadequate arrangements made by the concerned civic authorities for the pilgrimage led to the cause of the stampede or is it because of the god showing his anger or strong resentment against his devotees for going against his entrust and relegation.

A major point that needs to be looked upon is that both the temples are in BJP ruled states , Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.Does it sounds that these states haven't taken care of the lakhs of devotees or worshippers that thronged these temples to offer their prayers and offerings

BJP came to power in these states chanting the mantra of religion and temples- why were these states  soo careless in taking care of these lakhs of pilgrims who throngs these religious places because of the indepth belief they have in their almighty. This was not the first pilgrimage, every year lakhs of devotees visit these highly regarded worshipping places of the Hindu Religion. The government havent taken care of the situation seriuosly.Lack of inadequate facilities  and amenities for the pilgrims  may have shown the way for the stampede which resulted in hundreds sacrificing their lives and another thousands getting injured.'Prevention is always better than cure'.

The BJP, which has built its politics on religious causes and temples, is facing criticism for not doing anything for the safety of pilgrims in party-ruled states.

The BJP leadership, then preoccupied with exploiting the Ram setu controversy, had briefly commented on the Naina Devi incident before moving on to the electorally rewarding Amarnath pilgrimage row. Today, too, the party issued a condolence message. L.K. Advani, who owes his rise to the Ram temple movement, said he was deeply saddened.

Senior party leader Jaswant Singh faced a volley of questions from reporters when he refused to even mention the state government\\\'s responsibility in ensuring the safety of pilgrims.

When it was pointed out that the BJP promptly demands Shivraj Patil's resignation whenever a blast takes place and ignores negligence at pilgrimage sites where hundreds get killed, Jaswant said: You cannot compare terrorism with these accidents. Terrorism is a fight against the state. He, however, admitted that there could be some lapse in arrangements at temples as such incidents were repeatedly taking place.

Instead of talking aloud about religion and beliefs, the Governments ruling state has to look into the needs of the people and make sure that the life of the people is  safe in their hands.

'Practice what you preach.'
