Indo Australian Test Series – Bombs versus Balls
Wednesday 01st, October 2008

Looks like the terrorists are hell bent on destroying all normal activities in India. At a time when we are looking forward eagerly for the Indo-Australian test series, these extremists are trying to destroy the prospects of the tour itself. But kudos to the Australian Cricket Board, even after those bomb blasts at Delhi, Jaipur, and Bangalore, it gave the green signal to the tour. Normally under such circumstances, any other country would have straightaway dropped the idea of touring India.

Then, there were two more blasts in Delhi leaving two dead and 22 injured. And guess what Ponting says, We will tour India no matter what happens. It is not just a game of cricket now. It is also a game of life and death. This spirit of sportsmanship is very rare to find these in these days of match fixing and other illegal elements of the game. But with the comment coming from Ponting, the Aussies are all charged to face not only the Indian cricket team, but also the team of terror groups!

Following the fresh blasts in Delhi this week, the security advisory of the Union Government has issued fresh orders to all the states where the matches are to be played: Delhi, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Chandigarh. The order asks the state governments to increase the security for the players as well as the fans who will be present in the stadiums. Not only stadiums, the hotels where the players are staying are now carrying maximum security.

There are some practice matches scheduled at Hyderabad and Jaipur too. The main venues for the games are Mohali, Bangalore, Nagpur, and Delhi. The first match is scheduled on October 9th. Shashank Manohar, the current BCCI chief who replaced Sharad Pawar is all confident that the series will be a success. And to support him, the Australian Security Council has approved all the security plans and wants the series to happen at any cost. Now this will be a real series to watch for: a series between bombs and balls!
