2011 B-School Placements, Dominated By The Finance Sector

In the corporate world, a large number of B-school students in India are hired. Every student pursuing an MBA degree wants a good position in an organization with a good salary. For this reason, the time where placements are done is a very important time for the B-school students as they have to make the right choice.

Let’s take a look at the hiring trends of the B-School Placement Process (2011) in India:-

Looking into the records of the past few years, B-school students with a finance or marketing specialization have been given more jobs with higher pay packages. This year’s trend seems to differ a bit, the placements have been dominated by the Finance sector this year, more jobs with higher pay packages were offered to the students with finance specialization.

Sectoral trends for B-School Placements:-

•    Finance dominates 2011 Placements – All across India, the finance sector dominated the 2011 placements for the B-Schools, offering jobs with excellent pay packages. Some financial companies have offered B-School students an opportunity to work in foreign countries too, like New York, Singapore, Hong Kong and London. Percentage of some top B-school students hired by finance sector are as follows: IIM Calcutta – 31%, IIM Bangalore – 36%, IIM Shillong – 41 %, FMS Delhi – 33% and MDI Gurgaon – 31%

•    Consulting sector comes in second – Consulting sector comes second on the list after finance, leading global consulting firms hired a huge number of students for various positions at different levels. Percentage of top B-School students hired by consulting sectors are as follows: IIM Kozhikode – 24%, IIM Bangalore – 31%, IIM Indore- 23%, IIM Calcutta – 24% and MDI Gurgaon – 20%

•    Marketing sector is the third most preferred: Several students with specialization in marketing were given offers by big multi-national companies, numerous students were offered marketing profiles in the fields of sales, branding and marketing functions. Percentage of top B-Schools hired by marketing sectors are as follows: IIM Kozhikode – 26%, IIM Bangalore – 21%, FMS – 33%, IIM Calcutta – 22% and MDI Gurgaon – 37%
