Regional job prospects are looking good for SAP consultants, with hiring companies willing to offer attractive compensation packages just to get the best talent. Demand is "strong" in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Thailand and Australia for SAP functional skills such as financial accounting and controlling (FICO), materials management (MM), and production planning (PP).

Overall, the demand for such expertise is higher in discrete and process manufacturing industries, where the companies usually utilize a wider spectrum of
SAP modules for different business areas. Although there is little difference between entry-level positions across the different technology areas, experienced SAP consultants generally command higher paychecks than the average IT professional.

SAP consultants are paid a premium for their specific SAP project experience. Career prospects and development are good since there is a demand for these skill sets and companies are willing to pay good money for the best consultants.

How much one earns depends on several factors including the specific modules of specialization, as well as market demand and supply. In Singapore, for example, an
SAP HR (human resources) consultant may be in the lower payscale compared to SAP SD (Sales and Distribution) where the general demand for SAP SD is higher.

There is also a difference between working for an IT consulting company and in an end-user environment, and compensation also depends on the amount of travel required and the country of work.

A consultant can choose to continue to specialize and hone his skills as a SAP subject matter expert, take up managerial responsibilities, or even lead a team and work his way up to senior business or application management.

If you are already in an organization that implements
SAP software, you can explore opportunities for internal transfers to get the relevant experience. Once you have clocked one to two full-cycle implementation projects, you can be considered as an experienced SAP consultant.

SAP consultants can hail from different walks of life; one can have functional skills or domain expertise.

A HR manager can take up a course, and find a job as a SAP HR consultant either in an end-user environment or a consulting company. As you gain project experience, say, six months to a year, you can expand into other areas.

Career advancement opportunities are also not limited to the
SAP field. A consultant can take on a project lead role and later move on to become an IT head or CTO. And how important is obtaining professional certification? SAP certification is definitely nice to have, but it does not guarantee a smooth transition to a SAP career. Ultimately, companies are still looking at specific and related work experience in SAP. Strong communication skills and industry background will serve as a good foundation for an SAP consultant.

According to
SAP, there are more than 8,000 SAP customer installations in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, and the German software giant has about 1,600 SAP consultants based in this region. The company continues to ensure it has a strong pool of consultants who can serve the market. Training is also provided at boot camps where participants pick up tips on strategy, consulting and change management

4:SAP SD is good for you. I have no idea about
institutes at Bangalore. SAP Certification
directly from SAP-AG, Germany can be done
through Siemens but a costly affair. You may
check with siemens at Bangalore for the fees.

5:Hi

I am an Inside sales professional for past 3 yrs. into Software sales and work as a business development consultant with a reputed MNC.I have done an MBA in Marketing & Finance and hold graduation degree in Science.
Since i do not have a technical background/work- experience i am a little apprehensive if SAP modules would help me.However,i am very keen on pursuing an SAP SD module, since my understanding says- being a sales professional with an MBA, SAP SD module is best suited for me.
Seek your guidance on the same. Also, would like to know if SAP SD is the best suited module for me or should i choose any different SAP module to enhance my technical skillset.I am also not very confident if there is good training provided on this, and what are the job prospects once i complete the module.
I look forward to your suggestions on this, also if you could suggest a good institue in Bagalore it would be great help.
Thanks & Regards

6:hi i m a B.E Biotech fresher and i m from bangalore. i dream to make a career in marketing . do u think doing sap S and D module certification being a fresher is not worthy. what r my chances of getting my first sap break. do u think doing a sap course from not authorised training centre is of no use cause the fee they charge is just 10% of of what the authorised centres charge which is very afforadable
. do u think sap certification is only suited for persons with industry experience and not for freshers.

please answer to my questions as i m very confused whether to go for sap course as a fresher and if i do go then sap certified centre like siemens who charge a huge fees is good or course from not authorised centre who dont offer SAP AG certificate will be good . As in both the centres people find it difficult to enter the sap field and the latter finding it most difficult.

u can also send answers to my mail id tauseefshk@yahoo.co.in

please give me ur valuable suggestions

thanks in advance

10:You must start with a company with SAP
environment who is willing to train you and
help you gain SAP experience under their belt
before becoming a consultant. In the present
scenario, there is very little chance for a
fresher.

I am writing to you from US- Cal.

ITs about my brother in India.

He is a electronics engineer with SAP and other IT skills but he still strugles for his day to day living.

Basically, he is staying at the moment in BAroda-Gujarat to take care of my father ( cancer patient) and since his move there he has been out of job and getting no experince in it.

I read your article about SAP and am very impressed by your views and was wondering if you can shed some light on the issue of helping my brother out some way.

Thank You

18:Hi Ramesh,

I have zeeroed down on pursuing SAP HR (Functional Module)training. I carry almost 5.5 years of domain (HR) experience.

I have a query that if is it advisable to pursue SAP HR course from a private instituion in Chennai, or should i do from Siemens only. When it comes to placement, does it carry any weightage that wherefrom you have gathered the knowledge.

And given the current market conditions do you think its feasible to fetch a job/implementation exposure opportunuty immediately after completing the course.

Seeking your expert comments.

20:If anyone presently working in SAP
Environment even as End User, he/she can opt
for a career in SAP, other wise its not that
much worth to learn, since 90% of comapnies

22:No Limit. You must have a valid qualificaiton
for a particular domain and sufficient
experience.

Once you qualify the above

23: Hi,

Can you please suggest any
good organisation to persue SAP course, in
FICO in Delhi. Also, please suggest the scope
of CRM module.
Thank you in advance.
Mahesh Shukla replied to: Ramesh Nair post - 19th Mar 2009
24: Module has to choose from your own working
experience and qualification. All modules has
equal scope. CRM & Supply Chain Management
is good.

If you are interested
in SAP Certification- Siemens is providing
training. No Idea about other private
insitututes in Delhi.
