Halla Bol - Create Awareness and Mobilize the masses

I am a daily traveller on the New Hyderabad - Pune Highway. I drive myself for 27 kms (one way) everyday. This was a single lane road till couple of months back. It took ages by the government to start this project under the world bank donations and it use to be extremely unsafe and total hell to drive or to be driven on the road. Thanks to the politicians in Government...who waked up probably with the elections approaching.....the work started.

Most of the work is now completed but the problem had worsend. Earlier it was Hell ...now it is a easy passage to Hell/Heaven...completely unsafe....Drivers find it as if they are driving on the driving range specifically the State transport buses, MNR college buses(They are the worst).....Lorries which ply in greator Hyderabad....and the pedestarins/villagers...who either have no idea of what Highways are or they think are walking in a field/park. All wheelers (specific 3 wheelers) can stop anywhere in the middle of the highway or divert from anywhere...thanks to numerous U turn passages.....List goes on and on...and is nothing less than a laundry one.....

Well who is responsible.....First the politicians who protect the auto drivers unions..who think they only have the license to drive anywhere on the road...change or stop anywhere they want. The question is do we want to stop them?...NO....(they are the lifeline of many)...the solution is to educate them for driving...provide license only when they are found competent. (I bet 90% of these auto drivers are license less and have never gone to a driving school)..frequent checks thereafter....there autos should have 2 side operative mirrors and they being the slow traffic should drive on the left hand side of the road.

The second responsible are these state transport and college buses who drive on roads like maharajas either in the middle or on the left of the road and give passge only when they have to stop by giving a big loop from left to right...and of course have the right to take turn from any where

Then comes the traffic police ...well even though they keep standing there and watching...I do not want to blame them...they are probably the most underpaid and doing a thankless job...with no motivation.

Governement/Bureucrates need, not only to make strengent laws...but implement them with carrot and stick...Civic sense need to be EDUCATED AND IMPLEMENTED or else commuters will keep suffering...accidents keep happening ....Ifrastructure development is fruitless without a proper traffic sense....

While I agree with you Avnita....but traffic police personnle are so under paid and do not have any motivation...they are not in a position to catch even the autowallas....Recently I read in a news paper that a policeman had to be suspended after the auto union staged dharna outside the polic station. The policeman was only doing his duty.....I think educating and taking it up by each one of us in whatever smal possible way could be a solution

This problem could be resolved if the traffic cops take up their duty in the way how it has to be done. Keep an eye on auto Wallas and college buses who don't abide by traffic rules.
