Efficiently Multitasking

Software Engineer
Multitasking is one subject that needs some serious concern. Everyone nowadays is a Multitasking expert. As the pace of life goes on increasing, the amount of tasks that one needs to perform together increases. Man is pushed into the process of multitasking due to many reasons. Once an activity in our daily list gets delayed, then it becomes an overhead and thereby arises the need to multitask. Everyone is multitasking in some way or the other in the present times, although many might not agree to this. For people in the IT industry, it’s almost become a necessity to success. If you are not able to handle diverse tasks together, then you will be pushed to the back seat. And nobody wants to be a back bencher, at the least when it is career that suffers. That’s why I commented earlier that everyone is a multitasking expert nowadays.

Multitasking, although a necessity, is not a real good process (atleast from my point of view). It disallows one to gain enough knowledge or idea about what is really happening when he is accomplishing tasks together. It certainly puts severe limitation on the quality of deliverables. I recently read in a news that multitasking people gain lesser information on the tasks that they perform.

So how to perform multitasking efficiently? This question has been into minds of everyone. There are certain procedures that we follow while working in our projects. There is no different topic that I am really going to talk about, but it has been told to us right from childhood. But most of us fail in effectively following these in our lives.

  • Planning is one important thing that impacts one’s day-to-day activities. If we create a certain plan before every new day, and then try to adhere to the plan, even though with certain margin of deviation, it would help us in carrying out our tasks in an easier and efficient manner.
  • Time Management is another important that one needs to follow, in order to be an efficient multitasking person. Time allotment for processes really needs persons of real good calibre. Scheduling tasks is always the best way to achieve completion of activities efficiently. It also helps one to prevent adjustment on the quality.
  • Prioritization of tasks is another major concern. Tasks, if prioritized and executed in accordance, could improve the efficiency to great levels.
  • Apart of these, keeping log of tasks performed is the one that I consider the most important method in efficient multitasking. This helps in keeping track of activities and also helps in further planning of tasks. Believe me, it has helped a lot while involved in multiple and tasks getting cumulatively added down the line.
Processes are easier to lecture about, but implementation is the important thing. Although not really mandatory, it helps in improving one’s personal self as well. Multitasking is not really a hurdle always, it is simple and funny at times.
