Karanataka-"Very Highly Corrupt" state
Monday 01st, September 2008
A survey done by Transparency International found that Karnataka is "Very Highly Corrupt" state in India. The four states - Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are "Alarmingly Corrupt" category. This survey is based on response by Below poverty Line(BPL) families which are most unhappy segment of India. Police stand in highly corrupted section of Government where corruption is order of every day. "Of the entire bribe money, Rs 214.8 crore was paid to the police". I think this amount is far less than the reality. Overall India has high corruption rate. Its very hard to get work done from Government office without giving bribe. If you ask 10 people randomly if they have paid bribe then at least 8 of them will answer YES. According to law giving bribe and taking bribe both are crime. But how can you avoid giving bribe in such a highly corrupted state? There is department called Lokayukta to work against Corruption but very less people complain against corrupt officers because we know that even officers caught red hand are able to come out with clean chit then what is the use of complaining? Officers caught will be either transfered our suspended with departmental inquiry. We have no major punishment against corruption and the system is not so transparent to track corruption. e-Governance would bring transparency in government work but India is still far away from complete e-Governance.

Due to corruption pover community will always lag behind the rich people. According to me campaigns like "Lead India" does not promise you to eradicate Corruption from this country. Corruption has deep route in our country and lot has to be done to remove it completely.
