Shillong, a nice place
Saturday 28th, June 2008
Nature is at its best in Shillong.

Rains lover of the world unite here. All the hour it is raining in Shillong, either it is drizzling, or it is a heavy downpour. But it is all rain and rain.

Without umbrella and a big one , one cannot go out of home or hotel. The rains come and go. This moment there is the grey clouds kissing the hilltops and the trees. The next moment it is pleasant sunshine.

The people dont bother at all this drizzling. Children go to school in raincoats and under colourful umbrella they look like flowers in the garden.

Cabs are easily available. No problem to get the cabs. Rupess 5 to 10 per passenger and the cab drivers never nag about passengers . one two three .... just move on. sometimes four sit in the back of Maruti 800( all cabs are coloured Maruti). The passengers accomodate.Round the city the cabs move and move on ....

You can get good hotels with hot water facilties. Roasted Chicken, delicious pork dishes and oh more than everything the warmth of the quilt at evening while you enjoy TV ....with your family in a relaxed mood with the beautiful scenes of cloud -kissed hill tops.Heaven is here for the travellers.

You have extra fat! just come to Shillong and walk two kilometres a day. Take good Hilsha fish coming from Bangladesh and eat fine BPT rice available here only . Or buy chicken fresh from the local market.

You can also go to see the beautiful sights .The Elephant Waterfalls , The Watt Lake, and the Shillong Peaks and the Churches in the city itself and the beautiful Campus of North Easterna Hill University.... just marvellous to be there.

Then for a long drive ... you may go to Cherapunji...or Mousingram... where rain falls most? the question remains unanswered.

Beyond the skirts of Shillong there are other sights ... the Jayantia Hills where the Bengalee kings dominated once.. and the palace now deserted and ruined remaining only as hungry stones for the vistors...

Green , lush green is all that the eye can feast on..Shillong is the queen of the hills. Dont miss to visit Shillong. Yes , you may think of not visiting Ooty in the rains. But Shillong is beautiful for its rains....
