It looks like that India is on track for the Civilian nuclear energy
deal. It's good for India, but I personally would rate Nuclear energy
as a 'high-risk' energy source.
Like the unnatural investment
of interest and investment on cricket alone (in sports), let us
similarly keep our minds open on other renewable, sustainable sources
of energy.
The fossil fuels (Petrol, Diesel) are likely to be
depleted in another 100 years.
There is need for promotion of
Biodiesel fuels from Jatropha
(for locomotives), Research for other fuel cells like water, hydrogen
and not forgetting "human activity" fueled hybrid
vehicles.
There is need to plan and build the transportation
grids in cities on the lines on Germany - using Wide Roads (with
separate for High speed vehicles, Cyclists and pedestrians). Besides
roads, the coutry should invest in small electric TRAMS which can
permeate throughout villages. In Germany, the trams run in the centre
of the Roads. Electric trains like Metros running in Chennai and
Mumbai have to be upgraded to the modernity of Delhi metro trains and
ensuring electric power which is sustainable.
