The last Test of Anil Kumble's glittering career and the third Test between India and Australia ended in a draw at his favourite ground Feroz Shah Kotla on Sunday.Australia scored 31 runs in their second innings as both Matthew Hayden (16) and Simon Katich (14) remained not out after India declared their second innings at 208/5 leaving Australia with a victory target of 245 runs.
Kumble was given a
standing ovation by his teammates, the DDCA officials and
the Kotla crowd when he stepped out to bowl in the Australian second
innings. Hayden
and Katich shook Kumble's hands before the commencement of the
Australian
innings.
After the draw, the Indian players lifted Kumble on their shoulders as
they did
a lap of the ground. Kumble declared the Indian second innings minutes
after
announcing that he has decided to retire from the game when VVS Laxman
(59) and
Sourav Ganguly (32) were at the crease.
Laxman hit his 36th Test fifty reaching it with a cover drive off a full toss by Michael Clarke shortly before tea. Ganguly went past Greg Chappell in number of Test runs when he charged down the pitch and hit a Clarke delivery over long-on for a six.

by having him caught at first slip by Matthew Hayden for 47 - a knock
that came
with the help of four fours. Tendulkar took the Indian lead over the
150-run
mark by adding 52 runs for the fifth wicket with Laxman before his
dismissal
