editricon EXONERATING MODI

Narendra Modi is the most talked about man in the media. He has greater ambitions than what his present status is which is amplified by his supporters and a crop of new leaders in BJP orchestrated by RSS and the other sangh parivar outfits. Modi was a non descript leader prior to 2002 and the Godhra incidents and post Godhra riots called ethnic cleansing and pogom has lifted his stature to be compared with all time greats in the Hindutva bridgade. Modi is a fierce orator and a tough task master that even his hard critics admit privately that this man has potential for a greater role.

Modi has been credited with changing the face of Gujarat. Some one feels that he is far greater achiever than even Nitish Kumar another serious contender to the post of Prime Minister. Governing the state of Gujarat rich in natural resources and blessed with hardworking people is not a difficult task as is in bringing back normalcy in Bihar- a state ravaged by decades of mal governance. As the joke said, Musharaff cameout with folded hands claiming KAshmir in an integral part of India after a meeting with Lalu who wanted him to take Bihar also with Kashmir. Such was the state of affairs in Bihar that today, the visible changes in governance has brought much needed credit to Nitish who has profound distaste for Modi.

Modi's complicity in post Godhra riots are indisputable. I am not talking of Sanjiv Bhat and his affidavits, the relentless battle that Teesta Setalvad is still engaged with him but the living god of right wing politics in India Atal Bihari Vajpayee wanted him to quit stating that he has failed in his raj dharma. SC also observed that neroes were fiddling when Rome was burning. Sc appointed Special Investigation Team headed by former CBI Director Raghavan was right from the day it was constituted biased towards Modi. They have submitted a report now claiming that there is no evidence to link Modi with riots. What is Modi charged with? Even if there may be no evidence for his complicity in conspiracy, his dereliction in duty to safeguard innocent Muslims from getting burnt alive and killed as a retaliatory measure for Godhra burning is all too glaring. He is not even apologetic about it. That he took oath in the name of constitution to discharge his functions without fear, favor or bias but did exactly the opposite. He is fit to be dismissed for having failed the consitutional responsibilities. In the burning of constitution case involving the then Tamil nadu Speaker PH Pandian who disqualified sititng MLAS of DMK for having burnt a copy of the constitution, SC observed that the speaker was right. same logic applies here. SIT and its chief are partisan and the entire report needs to be rubbished.
