A Peep At Election Drama
Elections are due in a number of states. Media is busy with poll forecasts and discussions on the support base of the various political parties and its impact on the outcome. Leader of a pack till last week seems to get suddenly sucked down this week by the quicksand of electoral politics.
Veiling the UP elephants and the mahout by the election commission to obliterate these figures from public sight ,though claimed as a macho action by opponents, is condemned outright partisan by the affected and rebutted with a self assuring statement that a dead elephant is more valuable than a live one.
Man cannot fight woman where ultimately the latter wins. Realizing this, the Yuvraj has fielded his sister in place of his mother, reported sick ,to bat for him to score against the unrelenting pace of Maya who at her birthday bash seems to have knocked out a decade from her present age using the wizardry of a tech-savvy beauty parlor and tantalizing designs of cloth and jewelry, a sight which every dalit would wish for self and the fulfillment of which is assured in her speeches sprinkled with well practiced Hitler’s Raise of hand.
The antagonist , with all the bounties which youth can proffer and which the opponent lacks, has a charming smile in which the communication specialist Mr padamsee could capture a throbbing Indian heart like the one possessed by her father ,grandmother and great grandfather. I wonder whether a common man with no theatrical inclinations can see this heart Mr Padamsee sees.. The lady also has not failed to complement her natural endowments with well trained gait and mannerisms. It is not only her frontage that resembles her grandmother. On the rear view, a view the media has spared no effort to high light , the lady can be mistaken for her grandmother. The way of draping the saree, the long sleeved blouse, the brisk walk ,the smile and well timed and weighed utterances in response to questions , all seem to have been scrupulously studied from the extensive film footage available on her late grandmother and rehearsed umpteen times. before entering the current election maidan.
The contest between mercurial Maya and pretty Priyanka will be interesting to watch. Outcome none can predict. Certainly, it offers a juicy speculative fodder for the media. Whatever be the final result the Yuvraj is a likely loser. Certainly so ,if Maya wins. Even with a congress win , Priyanka with all her potential can shatter the dream of Yuvraj by ascending the throne herself. For congressman it matters not , so long he is assured that the country has the talisman of genetic purity against all its woes.
