Down memory lane
Down memory lane
When Humpty Dumpty had a fall,
All the king’s horses
And all the king’s men
Could put him together again.
A story just five years old
And a story of my wife,
When she was caught
By a cruel and crawling crab.
Dr Almel’s medical skill,
His team’s tender nursing care,
Alien blood and cash aplenty,
Freed her from the fatal fold.
Care and concern of kith and kin,
Countless prayers and offerings,
Made her winner in the tug of war;
All these yielded years of life.
And what a life ! Full of joy,
Given by grandchildren;
Their unsteady gaits a fun to watch;
Their babble all music to ears.
Their ABCs we led them to
And saw them take it in
Like kittens licking milk
And kisses we got as rich reward.
A girl of son’s own choice
With his needed attainments,
We could welcome home
To be his mate for his life.
We too had our share of fun;
Traveling a bit here and there,
Holding hands we climbed the hills,
And let the sea bathe our legs.
Crying our thanks to King above
For the gift of men and horses,
Proving wrong the olden rhyme.
