The heart of India, Delhi has evolved from an imperial capital to the capital of a thriving economy. Economy of Delhi has shown tremendous growth over the past few years. Delhi has a strong and vibrant economy which is quite vivid from its Gross Domestic Product. The gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Delhi at current prices for the year 2011-12 has been estimated at Rs 3.13 lakh crore, which is an increase of 18.7 per cent over the previous fiscal.


Economic Snapshot – FDI Inflows & Investments

  • According to the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, the cumulative FDI inflows from April 2000 to January 2012 amounted to US$ 32.2 billion.
  • Of the total outstanding investments of US$ 103.1 billion in 2011-12, the services sector had the highest share of investments at 69.5 per cent.
  • Investments were also made in real estate (18.3 per cent) and electricity (10.7 per cent) sectors in 2011-12.

Trade and Commerce Hub

It has become an important centre for trade and commerce with a number of key industry associations being present. The state also hosts several trade conventions and fairs throughout the year.

Further, the city has emerged as a key state with immense scope for development of the services industry such as Banks and Financial Services Institutions (BFSI), IT and ITeS, Consulting, etc.

Delhi attracts skilled and semi-skilled labourers from across the country. It has a large pool of skilled and semi-skilled labourers, who serve the requirements of various industries.

Delhi is a hub of large number of colleges and companies and thus, there is no dearth of job opportunities on the educational as well as professional front. The city offers jobs in various fields like information technology, telecommunications, hotels, banking, media & entertainment, tourism, and many more.
