The entry of times of india daily in chennai was a big bang affair for me.there were lot of street signs about this happening for more than a month in advance and the most visible thing was the concert after the launch of the paper.the price was also attractive for the one year subscription program. further it came with a gift. i have always read the editorial section of the mumbai edition when ever i visit my uncle's house at thane (w), in vasanth vihar. my father tells me that each day the bulk of the newspaper with its supplementaries is very sizeable. a price war has started in chennai with the grand old lady of mount road "the hindu" too slashing its price in its bastion, chennai , by a rupee, even indian express has changed its appearance, i am really amazed at the logistics involved in starting a news paper and keeping the distribution network working, collecting subscirption etc. it is a grand effort indeed.
