(1-4 of 8)Media And Issues
Is the media only promoting frivolous issues?
For example in the Mumbai blasts case pictures and stories of the terrorists kept appearing on the front pages while there was comparatively very little about the policemen and commandos who died fighting them.
Similarly in the Mangalore pub incident we have the images of the culprits appearing repeatedly in the media. But not enough time is devoted to highlighting the public debate on this topic.
Are we becoming a nation that is focussed on the frivolous? Because if we take a dispassionate look at the stories and images being shown on our media it would appear to be the case.
As Sun Tsu said in the Art of War - Kill one person and frighten ten thousand
Today the terrorists kill a few people and then the media takes on the role of being their mouthpeice.
Should the media take a more responsible approach? Shouldn't the media realize their role and importance in the society? But is the media capable of doing that on its own?
