Big Opportunities Usually Come In Small Ways

Dear Friends

My heart felt New Year wishes to each and every one of you. This is not just another year, or just another diary to write your past but one full year of bright future ahead.  It is another year of life, your life. Live it to the fullest.

Today I thought of sharing my thoughts on something I think important. Many of us or for that matter all of us like to express ourselves in all ways possible. Some dress well, some cook well and some of us even drive fast, and the simplest way to do is to talk about oneself. Why we do all this? I think we want to express ourselves in one way or other. We like to be noticed. There is nothing wrong in it. In fact we should express our talents. But we get so immersed on our “Self” that we fail to notice those golden opportunities that comes to us.  We think too much on what we do and fail to realize what we can get.  Successful people are successful not because success came to them but because they grabbed those successful opportunities that came to them. Opportunities are there everywhere and it depends on how we look at it.  Here is one example:  Two sales executives came in for an interview.  They where selected and sent to an island to sell shoes where everyone walks barefoot.  The first salesman came back saying he could not sell any shoes because people walk barefoot and they don’t need shoes.  The second guy came back saying 100% market because people walk barefoot and they all need shoes.  The situation was same for both salesmen and the successful guy looked at the situation ans an opportunity.

It is very important to look at every opportunity very closely as they usually do not always come in a big way. Even the best of the best opportunity come in a very small and humble way.  My friend was looking for a change in his career.  His boss came to him as he does always and gave him a magazine asking him to read a technical article he wrote for the magazine.  Not interested, my friend left the book there and continued with his work.  After a while he grabbed the book and opened the last page and in a conner he found a humble advertisement asking for a tech head in a MNC.  He did not throw that away but called the contact person who was a job consultant and that took him to a VP as he works now.   This is how opportunities will come to you.  Here is another example:  I gave an additional task to one of my subordinate who was hesitant to take it.  This special project was only for 6 months but he accepted to do it though he did not like doing it.  He came out successfully with that project and after 6 months he got a job offer from another company to head a similar project and lead a team.  Of course, he thanked me before leaving. Say “Yes” to anything that comes to you and who knows it may turnout to be a golden opportunity in a lifetime.  BE ALERT, OBSERVE and keep your EYES OPEN all the time.

Every day in our life we keep getting many opportunities to become what we want to become in life but we don't really see how good they are an opportunity.  As I have mentioned in my previous blogs, you receive all that you ask for and there is only one person who can accept it or reject it and that is YOU.

All the best

AJ
