Translate failures to success

"Life is full of challenges , at every step in life we come across situations which are trying and tempting us into failures and victories" Does it surprise you that only 400 cokes were sold the first year of its business ; Albert Einstein's Ph.D. dissertation was rejected; Henry Ford had two bankruptcies before his famous success; or Dhirubhai Ambani was working as a gas station attendant, written off as a failure, 20 years before becoming the first entrepreneur in India to take his company to IPO ?

Michelangelo couldn't get into art school on three occasions yet became a great sculptor; Abraham Lincoln lost seven elections before winning the Presidency; "Magic" Johnson failed a 1,000 times before he could show his magnificent performance;PC Socar bungled 5,000 time before performing his great magic show that enthralled the world;Sanchin Tendulkar lost 600 matches before becoming the worlds greatest batsman .

Each one had their share of setbacks, disappoints, rejections and unsuccessful attempts but those were not failures to these people. They were steps to their success. That's the difference between people who are winning at working and people who aren't. How you deal with your setbacks (big or small) will determine your results. You see, failure is not the lack of success. Failure is staying down when you trip or stumble. It's giving up, checking out, or shutting down.

You may be surprised that I was fired from my first professional job,I wasn't a failure, although for awhile I felt like one, and I could have been if I'd lost my confidence and given up on my career aspirations. I wasn't a failure when I was passed over for a coveted promotion I'd worked years for, but I could have been if I'd let that setback determine my future. And I wasn't a failure every time I pitched an idea that got turned down, but I could have been if I'd stopped pitching ideas.

For the last sixteen years in management, for every "yes" I've gotten in my career that's visible, there's least five "no's" that aren't. For every success I've achieved, there's at least as many misses. Yet when we look at other people's successes, we miss the struggles, frustrations and disappointments that came before them, so we think their success was easy. It all depends on how one perceives the disappointments, falls, and setbacks will impact your success. Do you see them as stepping stones or brick walls? People who are winning at working live Ralph Waldo Emerson's words, "Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories."

People who are winning at working don't blame others for what's happened to them, and they don't use other people's definitions for success and failure. They use their own. They know it's not failing to miss their mark, change paths, re-assess goals, try something new or adjust direction. To them, failure happens when they stop trying to achieve their personal best.

The blog you presented here is really motivating. It will help many people including me to boost up in chieving their goals. Failures are like a stone in the way of success. Big failures hurt more than the smaller ones but makes you more strong towards your goal.

Every time I fail means there is something which others see as development need, which i seek as FEEDBACK, the outlook towards life need to be in way other would like us to say.. for eg., @work, so I improve and prove to myself, I'm the best and see the path which moves towards my goals in my life..
we need wait , watch and seize the opportunity when it comes... and prove ourself we are best. and convert the failure to success

I fully agree with what you have mentioned in your article, as at present I am going through the same phase of struggle. I have been and still am facing a lot of failures in my field of travel & events, since the time I suffered a heart attack in the year 1999, but am bouncing back as I have had a direct marketing concept selling experience of 12 years and had faced a lot of similar situations convincing customers to purchase products of good quality & high value. My years of experience and learning on the job, attending workshops, conferences, motivational training courses, guidance from my seniors has made me a strong person and has enforced the "believe in yourself attitude". As of today I am reinforcing the same attitude in myself. It does not matter what the world thinks of me, as long as I know that I am on the right path. I know that there are a lot of people who call themselves my so called friends but in reality don't want to see me succeed. Other than criticism, I have not got any actual support in terms of business or finance from them. They tell me that my present age of 45 yrs and my health is not meant for the type of work I wish to do and instead should look out for a moderate paying clerical job. Its articles like the one that you have put up and all the other avenues thru which I get my motivations (especially my wife), gives me the strength to push forward. I believe in quality and don't want to satisfy the masses. I wish to market my products to only a niche segment of people who believe in quality and good living. I believe in myself and I know success will come to me, though after a delayed period of time. I would like to tell the others who are in the same situation like me to believe in oneself, be sincere to oneself and not to expect a pat on the back from others for a good work done. Pat yourself and above all believe and have faith in your GOD and have patience. You will be surely rewarded.

your article is very inspiring but i feel there shuld be some situational example rather thn just the fact that you or linclon or ford got success bt there is lack of "HOW FACTOR".

Absolutely right. More the pain, better will be the gain. Should not give up until we loose our energy.

Very true, we have to learn from our failures. If we keep our morale down than we can't succeed in life. Every one need to be confident about themselves. They should access their strengths and weakness's and move ahead in life for some thing better.

BASIC INGREDIENT OF SUCCESS IS FAILURE, WITHOUT FAILURE NOBODY HAS SUCCESS.

Take example of river, its flow increases with every stone, till it over come it or found other way to continue, we should have same attitude, consistent tries till we had overcome our failure to taste success.

Success is state of mind which gives strength and confidence to move up towards wisdom.

Well said Kishor. Success and Failure are opposite sides of a coin. Every successful person will have atleast one failure story to tell

Comment 16: By Ashutosh Salsingikar on 01st Jul 2008
Awesome & highly motivational. We should pursue that attitude in which our “faith in success is far greater than fear of failure”.

Comment 17: By Rajesh G on 30th Jun 2008
We should never take failure as end rather take it as a challenge to rise up and beat back. Its difficult but not impossible,if we accept our failure and sit back we are just supporting what other have told about us, but when we beat back, we prove it them that they failed in entrapping the hidden potention of our.
