Critical Review of Election 2014

As a voter I was carefully following most events on this general election for the 16th parliament of republic of India government. Here in this post I want to share my reflections about many comments, criticisms and promises as well as many topics those were discussed on TV channels.

To begin with I want to first chat on the claim of BJP as well as Congress party that the voters should vote the party and not an individual. Therefore, to change habit of voters to vote for their traditional representative they forcibly changed candidate and told repeatedly that voters should learn to vote for a party and not an individual. On this many past representatives were hurt and many left their party and joined other party or some preferred to stand for election as independent candidates from their traditional constituencies.

Interesting thing here I want to tell my readers is that our constitution does not have any mention that elections should be or must be fought by a political party. As a matter of fact the constitution has recommended that elections must be fought by an individual and not a party. Now the question that comes to my small mind is that, whether fighting elections on a party's ticket is constitutionally legal? Some experts have agreed to me that elections cannot be by parties but they have to be by individuals. I do not know the solution to this query. Nevertheless, if any reader can help me understand what is correct; and if elections must be fought by individuals as per constitutional dictates then how Election commission allows political parties to participate in these elections. I remember Anna Hajare had opposed formation of a political party on these grounds and had told Kejriwal that his idea of making a political party was unconstitutional and so he did not back that proposal. Was Anna correct in that?

Other point often talked about was of development. Here very often mention of great development Mody had achieved during his tenure. Even though most opposition told in their speeches that this claim of development in Gujarat State is false. We have no way to know whose claims are correct. I do not want to go in that since I do not have reliable data about what developments that government of Gujarat under Mody has done. Here I want to say something about the relation between development and population growth. I know economics very well and as per that any development of a state is related to the population level of that state. If population is growing at the rate ours is growing no amount of development can effect reasonably. That means, to have any sensible development we should stop or control our population. However, as we all see our population keeps growing or increasing at an alarming rate that there is no possibility that any political party can achieve any sensible development that they can boast about. To sum up, I should add that no political party of any capacity can achieve real effective development in our country unless people stop population growth and co-operate. Now we claim that India is a young nation since 60% population is young and so in reproductive age group. I want to know from these young people; are they aware of this and are they ready to help real development by controlling population? If people are not wanting to stop producing progeny at this rate and at the same time demand development from any political party it becomes clear that people of India do not have any right to make such expectation because they are irresponsible. Development is not a singular responsibility but a collective responsibility. To have reasonable level of development we must behave like a responsible people but if not then, do not complain against any party because they failed in giving any appreciable level of development. In this context, I had written a letter to Anna and asked him that he should ask his young followers to take a pledge that they will not cause population explosion. Unfortunately, he did not bother to give his reply and never asked his millions of followers during that agitation against corruption. Why we are shy to accept our responsibility to control population? So long as we keep our population growing we have no right to expect any development. What I have observed for all these years showed to me that some development appears to have been done but immediately rising population eats up that development and we find that there is no development worth the mention. As a result resultant development is worthless.

Most suggested in private talks that voters should vote for Mody and so for BJP to rout out Congress in this election. I agree to this because the way Congress has handled most problems it becomes very clear that present Congress leadership does not know how to solve our problems. We remember how Indian voters had dethroned Indira Gandhi as she had become a monster declaring emergency. We do not want monsters in our government. Today we see Sonia will be a monsters if Congress comes in power after this election. For some time keeping them out of seat is very essential. I feel this time also voters will vote against Congress to keep it out of power. They call it anti- incumbency vote; I wish we all do it to keep this monster out of power. Comic part of this is that BJP has already began to feel that people have chosen them; conveniently forgetting that it is an anti-incumbency vote. Nevertheless, BJP and Mody leadership have yet to prove their ability.

We really do not know if NDA can give a better government? What bad government they can give? I know whoever may come in power our problems are not going to be reduced because most of our problems are due to population explosion. We must realize that our bad condition is mostly due to ours irresponsible attitude. On this I did some investigation and found why we are indulging in population explosion? The reason I found was shocking to me. Our religions ask their followers to keep producing progeny! Can we remedy this evil?

There was very hot debate on the resignation of Kejriwal government and Kejriwal repeatedly told people that he resigned because their Jana Lokpal bill could not be put. I wish they should have admitted of the real reason. The real reason was that the bureaucracy of Delhi government, having been a Congress party segment, did not co-operate and they could not work on the day to day basis. I wish Kejriwal should have admitted of this real reason. I am afraid for the same reason BJP government may have to experience tough resistance of bureaucracy when they will be in office at the center. I know in all three tier level central government is loaded with all pro-congress officers including judges. The way EC co-operates with Congress and NCP we have seen while they gave clean chit to Sharad Pawar. Congress party always works on both fronts, political as well as bureaucratic. As they failed at political front they shall now try to create problems at bureaucratic front.

The crude confidence with which Sharad Pawar of NCP openly told his followers to vote twice and to remove ink is shocking. I have already written on this and so do not want to write any more on this misbehavior of leader of such as high position.

To conclude this retrospection, I must add that the onus is on people and not on political parties; whatever the results of this election. Bottom line as I believe is; if we continue increasing population no government however honest and hard working may be, cannot solve any problems of employment or any other.
