Can you handle leadership?
Wednesday 11th, July 2007
Leadership role comes with lot of responsibility. Before you get overwhelmed with what comes with a leadership role, it is better to understand and be prepared.

Path to climb to a leadership role is a strenuous and long one but the fall can happen quickly in one step. Unless you learn strategies of how to stay on top the challenges, it will be difficult to stay in leadership role. No one gets into a leadership role through luck. If someone gets into a role by pure luck, they will find it difficult to stay there. Leaders must have done lot of work to earn the role and only through grit and will power they can stay there.

To prepare yourself for leadership role, first be aware of your strengths and weakenesses. Evaluate your ability to stay accountable. Do you keep your commitments: big and small? Are you disciplined? Do you walk the talk? Can you handle stressful and emotional situations well? It is easier to lead when things are going great. It is very hard to lead when things are tough. Be prepared for good as well as tough times. Do you understand privileges as well as responsibilities equally well for a given leadership role?

You can read a lot about leadership and still be unprepared. You need to answer these tough questions yourself and be aware of yourself.

I hope this posts gives some ideas to ponder about. Share your thoughts through comments.
