Media, down and depressed, but holds out hope!!

Hope in the days to come, the blog becomes buzzing with more interactivity in proportion to the new excitement in media, at least in India, owing to hope and projections that we will be among the first to head out of recession. So far, the class of 2009 from the media schools has been bit unfortunate in terms of finding the right opening. No major media companies were hiring till now. Difficult times surely, but the shape of things to come with the government’s complete focus on getting the economy back on rails holds out hope for media too. By extension to all of us engaged in this exciting and exacting profession. Increased government spending to infuse life into different sectors of the economy, starting with infrastructure going by the focus and theme of the new ministers, surely raises hopes. Times surely are not going to get better instantly, but we in India may be the more fortunate as compared to people in many other countries, to come out of the current depressing phase that has seen job losses and factory closures as headline news in papers and television. At a time when the world economy is predicted to shrink by 2.6 per cent, as per the estimates by global bodies like the World Bank and the United Nations, India will still grow at 6 per cent. In this lies the hope that media will also become a beneficiary of the India growth story. It might be a good idea for us all to take a keener interest in the hows and whys of the economy works, as there may not be a better time to learn. – the world in a crisis situation. How the comity of nations breaks out of the situation may well turn out to be an interesting situation to watch. Given the fact that all our lives are strongly interlinked with this process, it might be a good idea to try and keep ourselves tuned to economy and changes the situation dictates. I would like to occasionally post developments relating to this activity and would be happy if this kindles an interest. Surely, even the general media will be showing a lot of interest in this, now that the elections are over. Any questions on this or journalism, please shoot. Will try and answer to the best of my ability.
