Sands of Time

The hand keeps moving-slowly but steadily. He celebrates with rings and bells at his every milestone – 3600. He sings for himself for his accomplishment, and admires his own determination to never look back – the past is gone…the future lies ahead…even its just by a second. Time is a standing reminder that every second is precious. We hang it on walls, tie on our wrist, neck, what not….but does it really serve the purpose.
Most people just use it as a bleep to hurry our actions, quicken our steps, and reach the destination. But does anyone really care, as to what its real objective is? As ironic as it may sound, time does not to alarm us of the breezing moment and urge us to accelerate our motions. It is rather a reminiscence to slow down. Enjoy the moment and indulge in the surrounding, rather than hastening our pace as if life has a big task of checking off all the to-do’s.
Just think….how many of us, really have sat down and breathed, enjoyed and relished a moment. We are almost always in a hurry to finish a task, to close a chapter, to slam a door, to gulp the food, and finally to shut our eyes to sleep. I am a classic example of this. My routine has become so stringent these days, that the smallest deviation would ruin it. My every action fits as a glove to the passing minute. My mind is so tuned to the monotony that I don’t even realize that going the other way and taking a wrong direction could sometimes turn out to be pleasant. I once remember taking a road trip to a summit.
Its only after we started ascending, we realized that we are on a wrong route. But it turned out the nature and the scenery around was so breath-taking, that we forgot we are map-deprived and we are not in fact en-route to our planned destination. Our regular trip would have been so planned, with anxious glances over the google maps, and panicky eyes to reach the destination, that we always tend to forget the reason for our vacation….the purpose to enjoy and relish. Try to do a something unplanned….you would surely enjoy the outcome as well.
So, slow down and enjoy…after all, life is not measured by the number of breaths that you take, but by the number of moments that take you breath away….
