editricon The Eye and Beholder

What an interesting piece of organ the eye is! It performs one of the most valuable functions of the body.  The eye is the lens to focus the light from any object to be viewed by the individual just like the camera lens does. But there is a distinct difference between the two.

In the world billions of people are there and many pairs of eyes to see all the myriad of things in the universe. They saw all things differently. In the case of camera whatever light is reflected on the film it is recorded exactly in the same way. There won’t be any difference in the same picture taken by thousand different cameras. There is no such film in the case of human beings, the reflected light undergoes processes in the brain, which interprets it in two different ways: one is to see objectively – just like the camera, the other to interpret it subjectively. Depending on this subjectivity, the idea of the universe undergoes drastic changes giving rise to a wide spectrum of views. It is due to this we gathered enormous storehouse of knowledge, so many religions, slew of ‘isms’, divergent opinions, umpteen subjects and other endless aspects of  human culture and civilization. This subjectivity of the beholder is behind the overwhelming variety of creations by man. The sculptures, paintings, literatures and multitude of other endless objects are possible due to the subjectivity of the beholder. The eye sees the concrete things but the beholder transforms the concrete objects into multiple abstract ideas. Every object, any aspect of anything is interpreted in numerous different ways.  This is applicable in case of everything. That’s why it’s normally said that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. The same beauty assumes varying significance for person to person ranging from ugly to exquisite. And, even to the same person, reflecting his mood at that particular time, age, and circumstance.

This processing is done by the brain. All human creations are the results of coordinated activity of the sense organs and the brain. Both are complementary to each other. The eye plays the most important part in the progress of human civilization.

If everybody could see the world in the same way, the life could probably be peaceful, but drab – too boring. The world will stand still. People will find no fun in living. Now, the world is full of newer ideas blooming every minute, bringing in development and change in the mental and physical domain. This is in keeping with normal evolutionary process. But the real trouble arises due to chaos created because of collision with multiplicity of conflicting views. Human civilization has reached at such a juncture; the endless proliferation of ideas is unavoidable. Divergent ways of seeing the same things impart breathtaking dynamism to life and living. This is desirable and necessary. Again, this is fraught with manmade tsunami. Is not the nuclear holocaust looming at the horizon the outcome of these discordant ideas?
