WHY NOT PhD after UG/PG
Thursday 03rd, January 2008
I often see people not knowing how much our govt. is spending to promote research. Here are some of the facts:

1. I often say people , if you love money, dont do research. But dont think i can say it again. As the govt. has revised the fellowship. The fellowhip now stands at 12000 ( + HRA) for JRF, which may sum to ~15000., and after two years, it is enhanced to 14000 , for SRF,( with HRA it may turn out to be18000)

2. Alongwith this amt comes a additional 20000 rs that you can use for your expenses, like Photocopy, Stationaries, etc.

3. You also have the option of going abroad to attend a conference. You will be given a good amt if you qualify all the norms.

But his does not come free. After your PG you need to take up a CSIR-UGC NET examination conducted twice a year (usually in june and dec).

So Hope this will ignite few young minds

ya ,i also think in the same direction.Indian government is spending so much for Ph.D.so they can get good scientist. then why young generation does not want to take this advantage.I think the lure early rich is diverting students from Ph.D. And Even after getting PhD.They prefer gng abroad which is again technology loss for government

Todays youngsters want to earn as soon as they complete studies and they lack the importance of doing Phd as it is considered it is only by teachers and lecturers.
