Padmashri A.R. Rahman was born in 1966 as Dilip kumar . The maestro showed traits of his musical talents at a very young age that his tender hands smoothed over the piano keys at the age of four. He lost his father very early in life and the burden of supporting his family fell on his little shoulders. Rahman stepped into the music career as a keyboard player in the great music director Illyaraja's troup. Rattled by fate's ill will his family was helped by a Sufi saint spiritually that his family embraced Islam and that is how Dilip Kumar turned out to be Allah Rakha Rahman that the world now identifies him as.

He has also the credit of accompanying Zahir Hussain and Kunnakudi Vaidiyanathan for their concerts abroad. This earned him the scholarship at the Trinity college at The Oxford University.

AR. Rahman Rahman the started composing for jingles and some of his remarkable works are really commedable. His contribution to Indian music includes;

Songs for the movie ROja,Bombay dreams,Guru,Rockstar,London dreams,Rang de basanthi and Chamki.

He had worked with famous composers of symphony music namely Andrew Webber Lloyd,Zakir hussain,Kunnakudi vaidyanatha bhagavathar and many more.

He is working on national and international projects to raise fund for the deprived and underprivileged which again shows his commitment towards the society as a musician.

Rahman is also composing about 15 songs for the Tolkein epic 'The Lord of the Rings'. He is to involve the Finnish folk group called the Varttina and the Elvish language invented by Tolkien for this project.. The songs will mainly be in English. . Apart from this, Rahman has also assumed the role of the brand ambassador for World Space that is the only satellite radio station in India. For this he will be composing a song as a part of the promotion.

His true love and dedication towards music and spreading it as a symbol of love and solidarity gains more honour to Indians and we wish and encourage in our hearts with lots of prayers to the almighty that he should live for years to enhance the beauty of Indian and western music in harmony. Jai Ho!
