General Mistakes In Resume - To Be Avoided

Many of my friends on Silicon India asked me about the contents of a perfect resume, they even asked me about the things to be avoided while making resume......

So, here I have tried my best to point out the things to be avoided while making a perfect resume......

Don’t Use Superlatives: never use superlatives in your resumes Like “Best Marketing Executive”. If you want to highlight that you are potential candidate then go for phrase like “Promoted as a Relationship Manager within 3 Months”.

Don’t Use Pointless Acronyms: Common Acronyms are there to use like CEO for “Chief Executive Officer”, anybody can understand what is abbreviation for CEO since its common. Some may use pointless acronyms, which is not known by everyone like TME fro “Telemarketing Executive”.

Avoid using fancy and comic  fonts in the resume, which does not look like a professional resumeAvoid using unusual-sized or color paper for print out of resume, which looks peculiar and odd.  Don’t include your photograph with your resume until and unless recruiter asks for it. Photos are not needed for resume.  Avoid mentioning your personal details in the resume like, Date of Birth, Age, Caste, Marital Status etc, which is unnecessary for resume.

Using Paragraph: The resume is read by hiring person maximum of 10 sec, in those precious times your resume must be reader friendly.   If you give your information’s in long paragraph, recruiter feels difficult to get necessary information from your CV. You can use bullets for pointing out and highlight your skills.

Don’t send the resume without Proof reading: Make sure to proof read and spell check your resume before sending as a mail.   Don’t maximize your resume page more than two pages: Present all necessary information’s within two pages.

Inaccurate Contact Information: All of us having mobile phones, since now a day’s people are changing their mobile numbers often. So it is better to give home landline number along with the mobile number. You contact number should be reachable to recruiter at any time.

Repetitions: Don’t repeat the same words or verbs in the resume like if you have worked in 3 Companies earlier, make sure that you are not starting the sentence in same way for all the three. Change sentence for each company profile like “Worked as a …” Or “Marketing Executive of…” etc.

Friends, I hope it was little bit successful to help you all.

Thank you.

Regards.
