Choosing to study abroad

Deciding about study abroad is a major decision faced by students and parents.

Preferred study destination  by a student from India are:

 

  • USA
  • UK
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Germany
  • Sweden
  • France

 

Enormous search and preparation has to be made before arriving at a decision.

 

Factors to be considered include:

 

a. What Course to study ?

 

b. Where to study?

 

c Which University?

 

d. What level to study ? Whether to do a basic degree in India and then go for    

     Masters abroad?

 

e. Relative cost and other advantages offered by the courses, place of study etc.,

 

f. What are the entry barriers, test requirements ?

 

g. Future prospects?

 

Here are a few tips that can help you prepare:

  1. Plan ahead. Start your search at least one year ahead of time.
  1. Talk \\ write to universities by e mail.
  1. Talk to a good education consultant, friends, senior from the college and collect all possible details. You can also write to student group in that country.

 

  1. Ascertain the cost of fee, living expenses, part time job opportunies,  while you are studying etc.,
  1. Find about the financial papers required. Some institutions ask for              documentary evidence even while making preliminary application.

      6.   Check for scholarships available in India\\Abroad.

  1. Tie up funds availability to match with your requirements in value and timing.
