Why I Blog?
Tuesday 19th, August 2008

I started a blog out of a quietly eager sense of curiosity, after reading about this hing called “Blogger” in a technology column. Knowing absolutely nothing about blogs and personal websites (or blogging), I set one up and entered my first “post” late that night :

Hi Bloggers!! With the ever growing culture of writing blogs, I also decided (eventually) to mark my presence on the internet through this exciting new medium. (Although)I have few mail id’s , an extremely convenient orkut account , a yahoo chat id ,an esnips account with more than 2 lakhs visitors and last but not the least the active subscriptions to many forums of my choice…With so much in hand I needed some prominent reason to start my blog..As I am….by nature….I don’t start the things that I can not manage, moreover I do not want to do injustice with any of the services offered ….I had a discussion going on in my mind about the dilemma weather to start a blog or not at all…the first thing that I was in the favor was that its like my personal (or rather public) diary. It is the reflection of my thought in the internet mirror. Its the real ‘me’ in the virtual Web…I could not stop myself from getting the funny idea that “A time will come when a person’s biography will b nothing but the chronologically ordered pages of his blog.” Honestly (and technically) speaking, it is not my first blog wrote a detailed note about my first visit to “International One Day Cricket Match” between England and India in Firoz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium in 2006. That was on the Yahoo 360 (http://360.yahoo.com/reflextarun) but as that was not written with the same intention so I don’t consider it… So here I am writing my first blog. The next big question that held me was the subject about which I would start writing. Till now, I just wrote technical article basically regarding troubleshooting Windows and other tweaks and tricks…So what I needed was a subject or rather anything that would set me writing…a center about which my Blog-circle goes around…As you might have guessed and experienced as well, Human Mind does not hits the right spot when you are exactly searching for it…Its not like Mr. Google who finds millions of results with almost any keyword. After much hips and hops I finally decided to write whatever I thought about this blog thing So what you are reading right now is the outcome of the above discussion.

Why I blog?

Well there are several answers to that question. But the main reasons are:

7. I’m a creative genius, who’s just exploding with undirected potential, looking for a release to express myself. Blah Blah Blah ..(you should be laughing at me right now)
6. Hey it’s this or finish that last do-it-yourself project I started.
5. I need to practice my typing and speeling spelling skills
4. I’ve tried complaining to my family and they won’t listen. So I’m going to complain to the internet instead.
3. Working late into the night with the lights on pisses off the cockroaches and makes me
2. I’ve been reading several blogs for quite a few years. And while reading a blog doesn’t make me blogger. It did make we want to give it a shot.
1. There are a lot of things I want to write down. Some so I won’t forget them, some so my children won’t forget them, and some just because (again blah blah blah…)

“I cannot say with certainty which of my motives are the strongest, but I know which of them deserve to be followed.”
– George Orwell: Why I Write, 1946

Blogging deserve to be followed whatever be the motive, for we are Homo sapiens with need to communicate and interact. My thoughts expressed on this topic I am appending here which appeared in vasudevan blog.co.in

The huge number of blogs and accompanying comments may give an impression that blogging is an idle past time practiced by people who wants to get somehow noticed by the world and if luck would have it, be admired for it. But the effort to blog, I feel, is an innate urge to express oneself freely with a courage of conviction, not to be suppressed, but be given full vent. A blog serves the need to communicate with others and understand other points of view ,the essentials for the creation of a peaceful world. I am convinced that a blog is no trivia and a blogger is not a blocker.

Blogger not a blocker

A blog is just not any trivial piece,

But a result of one’s tickled brain

Pricked by what is heard or seen,

Yielding lines that are so pleasing

And spurring the readers on a trip

Through the highways of thoughts.

Met by others from byways many

Etched on the inner cerebral depths,

One is gifted at the journeys end

With a painting grand and lasting.

Like a shrink using LSD to delve

For hidden subliminal thoughts

To reveal for you the “real you”,

A blogger uses his blog as a tool

To open up for you vistas new

And let you enjoy a broader view.

.
