Drug abuse is the biggest malady affecting the human community other than terrorism and corruption. In india most of the pharmacies supply medicines or sell medicines without proper prescription from physicians.Unauthorised and banned drugs are still in stock in many pharmacies and sold out without anybody's knowledge. Many drugs which are painkillers are highly addictive and some with sedation are causing depression and health issues on patients and common people. The young and the old are getting addicted to drugs, which is the major cause for"Cocktail Drug Abuse".The latest trend is causing concern on the mental and physical health which affects the future, family and financial stability caused due to this kind of malicious habits. The easy availability of these medicines which are of high sedative content can cause a lot of health problems which really leads to committing suicide or other crimes.Alcohol consumption was considered the worst among the evil vices in our society or in the whole world which is now enhanced by additions like cocktail drugs. The drugs control authority and Indian medical association together must take effective measures to control and punish the pharmacy owners and suppliers who are engaged in such malicious practices which is causing great alarm on the health of the whole community. Those medicines which are tranquilisers, painkillers and the like should only be given if the patient or the purchaser brings in a prescription and also if he buys more than a certain quantity they should enquire about it and make sure the same or any other person should not be given such medicines without confirming with the concerned physician. In many countries once a doctor prescribes certain medicines the prescription rests with the pharmacist and the patient or the buyer is supposed to bring in a new precription on a new date for further supply of the same or any other drug to the same person. Our people's health is the wealth of our nation.Life saving drugs and the suppliers of it should not themselves be the devils who take those lives back.A campaign has to be launched against this practice in educational and working institutions by the related authorities and strict disciplinary action should be taken against pharmacies and suppliers who do not abide by the norms applicable.
