Great leaders are not born but are made and eventually being a Great leader takes practice. On a simpler note; Leadership is a behavior rather than a personality. Remarkable research has been done in order to understand the success mantra of distinctive successful leaders. Many researches have concluded that although being of different personalities, effective leaders share some characteristics in common.

It has to be Directive, Supportive and Inspirational for the team. It’s all about influencing the employees and leading them by example. Getting to know what the employees need and adapting to their styles always keeps the leader in the driving seat.  Regular interactions with the team, getting to know their goals and catering to their needs institutes’ mutual trust factor between the leader and the Employees. Needs and priorities change all the time; an ongoing activity of interactions with the Employees keeps the bonding intact and the mutual trust never wears off.

An Effective leader acts with Integrity. Focusing on the individual needs, giving them individual attention and providing constant feedback makes the employees feel they are being recognized and receiving attention. Practices of Employee engagement keeps the determination of the team alive and ensures that they are satisfied and are rightly rewarded for their hard work. This safeguards emotional commitment of the Employee with the company and they will be more focused on organizational goals. Encouraging Collaborative effort from the team and involving them in the tasks by respecting individual contributions makes each member feel that they are acknowledged and would incidentally motivate them to deliver their best outcome.

Vision and People oriented approach always works wonders for successful leaders. A leader should always be optimistic, passionate and should lead from the front during the times of ups and downs. It is the leaders that the Employees look up to for guidance in times of crisis and a leader has to foremost trust himself and should believe in his gut instincts optimistically. A leader should always be open to learning and adapt to changing conditions with broad mind perspectives. Finally it’s how the Work- life balance is maintained so that they don’t get overlapped and safeguarding both of them are justified.
