Anurag Dua's Story

The Journey So Far:
My journey so far is very good. No journey is without any hurdles and I am not a exception to that. I have come across few difficulties and had met many intellect persons who are my mentors. I learn good things from them and have overcome those hurdles with ease. I am a survivor not a victim.
The Decisions That Matter
Most important career decision was to move from Direct Marketing profile to Product & Brand Management field. It gave me thorough knowledge about the product life cycle and the strategies a marketer uses to keep a Brand alive despite severe competition in market place and market space.
Career Profile:
In my current role, I am the account head for both US and European customers in Wholesale and Network verticals. My main focus is to provide them innovative merchandising in jewelry along with keeping a price/quality ratio intact. Earlier it was more into devising sales and branding strategies.
Degrees That Matter:
In my case I Completed Internal Auditor training for ISO 9001:2008 covering requirements for Quality Management System and also completed Internal Auditor training for ISO 17025:2005 covering the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
Working Life Management:
The rule is simple: Don't mix your Work Life and Professional Life. Treat them as two parallel tracks of railways. Both necessary yet doing their job without interfering into one another's.
Done Differently:
If I had to start my career all over again, I would prefer to be more creative and innovative in ideas and for this I would love to work in advertising field.
Plans For The Future:
In a couple of years, I want to see myself at GM level designation. I strongly believe that one should never get satisfied in professional life as professional satisfaction hinders your professional growth.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
I was the Key Team Member for past employer’s successful attempt at Guinness World Record for the Most No. of Nail Extensions done in 4 hours by a team of nail technicians in Feb. 2010. Got certificate from Guinness World Record for this activity.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
Professional environment, now-a-days, is very dynamic. It has become a melting pot of all cultures & skill sets. Today, everyone aspires to be a "Jack of all trades" as compared to earlier. Earlier people strives for "Mastering" a field of expertise. Everyone is now very keen to learn new things.
Required Reading:
One should read books of Stephen Covey, Robin Sharma, Paulo Coelho and Chetan Bhagat. Few business magazines are good like Business Today and 4P's. Few websites are good such as www.ibef.org, www.hindubusinessline.com, www.indiastat.com. Publications such as Harvard Business Review are very useful.
Advice For New Professionals:
My advice is simple. Be a "Learner" always. Learn from everyone, person on top to person on bottom. Always have a keenness to learn. One should also be inquisitive in nature so as to have better understanding of dynamic work environment. Always be modest and respect everyone.
Role Model:
I consider Kishore Biyani as my role model because of his attitude to change things. It was his vision which has now transformed the Indian retail sector. A true visionary and very modest person.
