Arindam Dutta's Story
Job Profile:
Presently I own two health care facilities in Kolkata. One is running for the past 25 years the other for 17 years.
The Decisions That Matter
Not taking up a job. I have been offered jobs even when I was in business.
Working Life Management:
This a question I should have been asking myself in my 30s. Today it is so very natural. Whatever decisions I have taken, many not very at all easy, have more or less worked out. God is great.
Plans For The Future:
I have been a first generation entrepreneur for 41 years right after University with Rs.200 as my capital. I continue to run my business scaled down and devote quite some time for mentoring startups. I want to see a an entrepreneurial eco system develop in the country.
Growth Strategy:
I have already worked as Advisor to seven leading academic institutions of the country in Entrepreneurship from '98-2010. Currently I am a member of the Advisory board of a leading central government organisation. What I am looking for is a method of creating an entrepreneurial mindset in students.
Other Thoughts:
Business climate has changed dramatically post liberalization. We see new names in industry mainly IT. But ITeS career for someone in his 30s according to me will have a limited future. Academic standards in teaching institutions needs a hard look.

Advice For New Professionals:
Keep your feet on the ground. If you are in a government job, there is nothing to worry income wise. If you are in the private sector buckle up.
Role Model:
My role model is a Gujarati gentleman Manubhai Desai manufacturer of India's premier entertainment electronics Cosmic Stereo System. He has retired and the company has closed shop. But he taught me business. I learnt that academic qualifications though necessary was not enough to succeed.
