Differences
Marketing & Selling goes hand in hand. Marketing is the initial concepts of identifying the need, wants of the consumer & then converting them in to products or services. Selling starts when you finish this steps..it is how you are going to make available of the products or services to the consumers (target audience). Some time in order to sell a product or services you need to make understand the consumer about the marketing ideas, like why the product was being developed, why is the requirement for the consumer to buy the product, how it will help him/her when they purchase the product. when any sales person sells the product he doesn't sell the product, he sells the services associated with it. Marketing concepts completes starting from identification of the requirements of the consumer till it reaches the consumer as a product or service and then he starts using that product...till he is satisfied with the requirements.
Recommended Courses and Certification
Some of the modules on ERP related to marketing like sales & distribution, Retail management, CRM etc. would help a lot..
Importance of Marketing
Being a marketing person, its important from both career and organization stand point. Marketing is the backbone of any organization to survive, it is the only dept. from which ideas are converted in to revenue. Marketing dept. plays a vital role to shape and survive for any organization. To achieve organization objective & its goals, marketing managers play an all round activities to ensure rest all departments functions smoothly. A marketer doesn't market a product or service he sells, in fact it is much more than these. A marketer sells ideas, product, service and much more important relationship to the consumers. To put it in a nutshell a marketing manager identifies needs, wants and demand of the consumer requirements and ensure it is fulfilled by means of product or services.
Growth
According to me one needs to access his performance every quarter... he needs to have a yardstick to measure his performance and any discrepancies should be noted and rectified...
What can be achieved
It depends on the nature of industry/ what kind of business one is in...
Brief yourself
I have completed my MBA (Marketing) in 2005 -07 and worked for two years as a ASO (Karnataka & Goa) in Education sector & now presently working as BA for a manufacturing company.
Recommendation
Marketing books - i prefer Philips Kotler -Marketing Management. Newspaper - Any English newspaper. Website: When ever any one gets time try to see how some of the online business are being carried out...its the new concepts which is picking its pace and changing the way of marketing a product....
Growth Prospect in marketing
Marketing is one such filed where any determined person can climb the corporate ladder with in years. Again it depends upon the urge to do different things and his zeal to go for that extra mile as compared to his peers. One has to have a sound knowledge of product, process, people, business, rivalry etc. apart from these he need to be a hardworker.
Branding
The name Brand is unique. It is the term that any organization would feed to the consumer's mind and tell him how different is one brand as compared to another brand. A brand is a name, letter, logo, which tries to reach out to the customers and say what are the offerings and how it is different from other revivals. A brand is everything...one such example of brand is during the buying behaviour of the customer. when ever a customer goes for shopping as per his/ her requirement, it is brand which comes first to his mind and then he tries to compare with other brand and the most influenced brand the customer will end up in buying, again it depends on what are the features that a customer is looking in a product / service and how much it has met his requirements. Yes, brand plays a vital role when it comes to buying of products / services. It speaks everything about the product.
Importance of sales
Sales is the back bone of any organization to survive.. it is the only dept. which generates revenue.. but still most of the organization does not give important for this dept. without sales no organization would survive..so if any organization needs to grow they need to invest in its sales...
Role in an organization
As per the agreement i am not in a position to share my current responsibilities.
Future trend
some of the trends like online shopping as compared to traditional shopping where customer can touch and feel about the product..are diminishing.. availability and reasonable products at nearest place.. E-commerce.
Positioning the product
Before positioning your products, one needs to identify the nature of product he is dealing with..he needs to do a market survey like age, gender, income, geographic usage, replenishment of the product, target audience...some of the factors which effects the products like internal factors (those exist with in the organization) & external factors (Environmental, political, socio -economical, business laws, government laws, business ethics etc). Once he does a market survey he needs to identify the right price for the product and identify the target audience. once this is done..nearly 75% of the positioning is done, rest is execution part through various ways of brand promotion and availability of the product to the target audience..
Future prospect
I want to see myself in the coming years at the 'C' Level...
