Gourav Mahajan's Story
The Journey So Far:
It has been a long journey of over 10+ years, learning a lot of important things from various profiles and experiences. A fairly strong experience in Operations, Sales Management, Sales Training, Pre-Sales Management, Corporate & Educational Sales, Marketing etc.
After these many years of building an exemplary career I realized that my place is Education Management and would like to carry on my journey on the same path. I enjoy talking to students, counseling them, guiding and mentoring them, managing their issues and suggesting them the best solutions for their concerns.
Job Profile:
I am managing the operations of amritsar branch of reputed Aakash Institutes. My responsibilities also include a lot of interaction with students and counseling and guiding them towards their goals.
The Decisions That Matter
Leaving IT field and jumping into Education Management profile. I think that's what I was made for.
Career Profile:
My current profile is very different from my previous profiles though most of the learning from previous roles is being implemented in the new profile. My main responsibility is to increase the revenue of my branch and spread a very strong positive word of mouth by various initiatives.
Degrees That Matter:
If asked about my personal opinions, then one should always go for practical skills, that can be earned by all professional degrees or certifications. Most important among these are communication skills.
Professional Strengths:
My humble background has taught me to learn from everyone and at every place. I can learn from a small kid if he has something important to teach me. My communication skills with my peers and team members help me in motivating them for a bigger achievements. Practicing empathy has also generated some great benefits for me.
Working Life Management:
Spending quality time with family as much as I can, keeping a regular fitness regime and finishing my tasks (most of them) during work hours.
Done Differently:
I would have loved starting my career with a firmer mindset and few more confident choices.
Plans For The Future:
Happily living my life doing something that I enjoy doing other than making sure that my family is safe and secure.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
None, so far. I am looking forward to some bigger challenges now. If asked, I would say, handling my family matters from last 10 years after the decline of my father's business is an achievement for me.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
It has become riskier by every passing second. A professional has to justify his salary and prove his worth to the organization. You just can't demand a good salary hike after one year, just because you stayed there for that duration. You've got to make them increase it.
Growth Strategy:
Personal and professional growth are the keys. Personally I try to keep myself updated about the surroundings and professionally I try to learn from leaders and keep myself open for any type of constructive feedback. It's important that I keep myself flexible and adaptable to all kind of challenges.
Other Thoughts:
I am thankful to siliconindia for providing me a platform where I am heard. Keep up the great job.
Role Model:
There are many, I tend to learn from all my co-workers. But to be specific, I would say Warren Buffet.
