The ambitions of Indian conglomerates are growing. Good thing is the ambitions are not limited to buying new oil blocks in Russia or bidding for telecom license in Tunisia. They are going all out for it.

GMR group one of the rising Indian conglomerate is rumored to be buying Liverpool As the Mint article points out it could be a rumor. In all probability it might turn out to be true too.

GMR is the owner of the IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils. And Daredevils are kicking ass along with Deccan Chargers in this edition of IPL. Buoyed by this success we can safely assume that GMR is interested in buying the football league Liverpool.

If cricket is the most popular sport in India, Football is the most popular sport on this planet. That is a good enough reason to believe that GMR is looking for Liverpool.

This is not the first news that came out about Indian conglomerate’s sports fascination. It happened for at least 3 times so far. Anil Ambani who failed to own a IPL franchise like his brother Mukesh, was rumored to be buying New Castle team of English Premier League. That still remains a rumor.

Sahara Group was supposed to sponsor Manchester United after AIG’s troubles. Nothing came out after that. Tata group was supposed to sponsor F1 Ferrari team. Again, no news after the breaking news.

I just hope that GMR buying Liverpool doesn’t turn out be that way. I just hope that an Indian company gets a foothold on a football, a foreign jersey or an F1 car. Because, India’s foot size has increased and it is time the world knows about it, in more ways than one.
