Project Plan for India - A Developed Country by 2020
Tuesday 11th, March 2008
Every indian believes that India would become a developed country by 2020.Thanks to our beloved Abdul Kalam for cultivating his vision in our minds. But do we have any project plan to achieve his vision. I dont think that we have any definitive plan or road map for this.

I've identified some core areas which we need to focus in the next decade to become a developed nation.

Here we go :

Agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone of our country.Over 60% of the country's population employed in agriculture.Hence Agriculture plays a major role in the overall development of a country. Most of the country's agriculture population depends on monsoon or natural rainfall. We are seeing regularly that when one part of country affected by excessive floods the other parts suffered by severe drought. How we are going to solve this issue? One solution might be the interlinking of rivers across india. But there are practical difficulties in implementing the integration of rivers at one shot. We can do this by interlinking the rivers within the state, then between the neighbouring states and finally across the country. We can also take a leaf out of the countries like Denmark, Newzealand etc for implementing the efficient techniques to the growth of agriculture.Agriculture plays a major role in the overall GDP of these countries.

Education
Education plays a major role in shaping a country's future. Our goverment should strive to improve the quality of basic education given to the students in rural areas. How long are we going to say that so many indians are working in Nasa, Microsoft, Google etc? Let us say that so many foreigners are working in our indian organizations like ISRO, HAL etc.
We have to invite bright students from US, Europe and other countries to learn in our universities by improving the quality of our educational institutions .In this way we can utilize the brightest minds across the world for the development of our country.

Healthcare
Most of the people living in rural parts of india struggle with the public health care system as its minimal or non existant in the villages. Due to commercial gains the health care system is concentrating on cities and urbanized places. We have got world class hospitals with excellent doctors which attracts the millions of patients outside of the country. But we are not able to provide a basic health care system to our citizens. Our goverment along with the private health care institutions should provide a accessible public health care system to the rural people at free of cost. The strength of india lies in its Human Resources and our goverment responsibility is to take care of it well.Lets make India a healthy nation by 2020.

Infrastructure
I think this is one of the most discussed topic in the last couple of years. Infrastructure means providing best environment like roadways, airports, bridges, clean water, electricity, sewages etc to the citizens of a country. This not only improve the quality of living but also bring more foreign investments to the country.Infrastructure is like fuel for the fast growing nation like India. According to Businessweek "The infrastructure deficit in india is so critical that it could prevent India from achieving the prosperity that finally seems to be within its grasp. Without reliable power and water and a modern transportation network, the chasm between India's moneyed elite and its 800 million poor will continue to widen, potentially destabilizing the country".

Others

Apart from the above areas there are certain things that we need to give importance. One is the transparency in our political system like western countries. This will prevent the corruption which is hindering the growth of our country.

Second one is protecting and nurturing our culture which dates back to millions of years ago.No one will deny that globalization and libralization have changed our cultural values. There are both postive and negative things in globalization and we should try to accompany the positive things of it without affecting our values.

Development along with our cultural values will take our nation to greater heights.

Let us say "Tomorrow is Ours "

Thanks
Kathir

i loved your thoughts, Kathir. I hope my people here in the philippines would also have those visions as yours. In my country, they almost neglect agriculture. I dont even know if there still hope for my people. Our political system is so much corrupted, giving no hope for some filipinos trusting the capability of our government to give remedy to the wounds that been left by decades and decades of political nausea...

sorry to to put a damper on this enthusiastic and forward looking blog.

i as an nri living in uk who has visited europe / usa / india , do not honestly believe that india will be a developed nation comparable to uk come 2020, infact i am willing to bet crore ruppes on that.

i will tell you why 1) pathetic and poor infrastructure 2) corruption at all levels 3) high level sanitation 4) education awailability to all 5) lack good national health care 6) removal of cast system in all areas 7) lack of honesty and clarity in business 8) indian market are restricted for investments

this is a view from an outsider looking in and who has reasonably good knowledge how long it takes for development of various systems

Thank you Mr. Kathiravan T, for your topic on "Project Plan for India - A Developed Country by 2020" and then your pointing out the areas where our likely approaches could be.

Going through your commentaries on broad headlines like Agriculture, Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure and Others. I believe, this is the time we got to build-in

1. Task Forces for "assigned job" on above broad areas. There the "sole purpose" of this task forces in every assigned areas "must ensure that while putting the whole designed effort" for assigned core area e.g., say Agriculture, "the fine objective / outcome of the objective" of this area of Agriculture will be "how feasibly get added-up into the another broad core area, say e.g, Education or Infrastucture or Healthcare", THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT WHAT I BELIEVE IN and I BELIEVE many of you will agree while having the RIGHT INTROSPECTIONS in THESE PATTERN for all other CORE AREAS.

2. I believe, the above "Strategic Approaches require expert understandings" with "fine & filtered temperaments" in the whole approaches.

3. To stretch it more on the above approaches / understandings (or) can we highlight it this way, with another effective example. I like to put this way, in the 4th point.

4. Well, good infrastructure are what we need is most urgent in related terms for not overlooking for having smooth communication and transfer to the destinations with cut-out times and comfort. The "most sought-after point here" should be, "how best do we preserve our infrastructure" for through our "natural claiming" based "purely on our cultural values and heritages".

5. Now, on the above point how best we can think of this way having sound values. Look, if we think this way, I solely believe this will not apprear comic. More elaboration in the next point.

6. Infrastructure-Our Culture-Education-Agriculture-Environment Link : How best we can look at it this link ? How do we think of and then practice this way.....in the following point please, bear with me !

7. To preserve an Infrastructure, "all are participating" this way....Think Now...a) There are necessary garbage bins, public toilets and their right usages through Education and Education in Governmental Administration. Now, It has been firmly ensured that for the presence of requisite garbage bins, public toilets and their right usages both in usage front and collection front (here where we see Governmental Administration Education really). For continuation, in the next point please.

8. Now Garbage Bins, Toilets are being ensured used properly through implemented mechanisms, for so to say, when there are crises for not having proper Education, Cultural Values and heritages. So, we see here, as we all are being participated for our being involved with right amount of Education(Here Discipline is coming, I believe purely through the right understanding of social/cultural/scientific temperament), Cultural heritages, do not we look here now for the above participation, the changes in Environmental Front. Yes, the Environment-Agriculture scenario is not yet clear. I fully agree with you, so I request you to bring-in some scientific temperament in my next point.

9. All the excretes from Garbage Bins, Public Toilets are collected and being dumped in an designed area nothing less than we call this an Huge Bio-gas Plant.

Thank you.

It is a great joy to introduce a practical enterprise to integrate in society of India the values of a developed society or even better! Developing countries, as I know Norway well, could be much better, richer, advanced etc. and India may jump rigth to advanced levels!
We may start the discussion by my groups in silicon India! Welcome

It is very enlightening to see young Indian bloggers writing on a developed India. India is currently a trillion dollar economy and the US, a developed country is a twelve trillion dollar economy, while the former has three times the population of the US. For India to reach a developed state with the current US as a benchmark, India has to develop nearly forty times. At a ten percent GDP growth rate, it takes India nearly forty years to get there. By 2020, India will be on its way to a developed country status but it will be a little longer to actually reach there. Of course, it requires hard work and a good plan. A comparison with most developed countries shows that agriculture contributes only one percent to the GDP of a developed country. Hence rural populations in India will have to take to knowledge based businesses including knowledge based agriculture. Most importantly, planning has to be done at the panchayat level. Technical people like Mr. Kathiravan may be interested in creating development planning templates and execution monitoring tools. Such tools may allow systematic social and economic development towards selected targets, increase transparency, and reduce corruption.
