Be Acquanted with the famous Hindu pilgrimage ‘Chardham yatra’

A journey to four splendid pilgrimage destinations in Utterakhand, Chardham Yatra is an experience like nowhere else. This is a famous pilgrimage for Hindus in India and is undertaken in summer months, from May to October. The four religious destinations which form chardham yatra are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gagotari and Yamunotari. All these places are quite sacred from mythological context and are believed to be adobe of Gods and Goddesses.

If Gagtorai is the holy adobe of Goddess Ganga, temple in Yamunotari is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna.  Similarly, Lord Vishnu is worshiped in Badrinath and Lord Shiva is the main deity in Kedarnath.  Furthermore, all these towns are fed by four sacred rivers.

Dates for Chardham Yatra 2013 have been issued. It will commence for 11th May and will last till mid-October. And since the nature of the Yatra is very tough, pilgrims are expected to plan their trip well in advance. Make sure you book your required facilities well in advance. Advance preparation is needed for the hard trek through Himalaya during this pilgrimage. Safety and security instructions should be properly followed. Avail as much as possible info about the destination, local people and local customs and traditions.

Direct buses and taxis to the four dhams are available from Rishikesh, a small town in Utterakhand which is easily connected from all major cities in North India. You can take a overnight bus from New Delhi to Rishikesh and then catch a vehicle to any of the destinations in morning.  Alternatively, complete chardham yatra packages are available online to pick up from.
