editricon RIPPING OF THE MASK OF MODI

NaMo, or Narendra Modi is one name which instantly evokes strong reaction from both his admirers and detractors in full measure. Speculations are rife that he could be the possible contender for Prime Ministers office if by any chance BJP led NDA manages to cobble together a majority- a remote possibility but not ruled out judging from the poor governance of UPA-II. It has already ruffled coaliation feathers of NDA with another contender despite denials to the contrary , Nitish Kumar rejecting the possibility of supporting Namo as Prime Minister.

Narendra Modi is being projected as a tough leader, who does not accept corruption, nepotism unlike many of our present day politicians, a man who had made miracles in Gujarat and is likely to lead BJP to yet another victory in the forthcoming assembly elections. Well, this could be far fetched for MadhyaPradesh voter sent Digvijay packing after two successful stints and Gujarat voter could also do that for the vote divide is hardly 4-5% which could swing either way. Last time, Sonia took the trouble of getting Modi unseated with her maudh ka saudagar remark but could not succeed. Modi challenged Sonia to recite Vande Mataram without mistakes so that he could withdraw.

Modi for all his alleged records, has cultivated an image of being intolerant seen in the way his detractor Sanjay Joshi was eased out of the party. His role and complicity in Post Godhra ethnic cleansing is still to be decided even though Raghavan's SIT has given him a clean chit. Raju Ramachandran feels there are enough grounds to book Modi for the alleged complicity but the trial court will decide on this. Till today, Modi has not felt it necessary to even offer a tokenapology to the minority community confident he is of the complete polarisation of votes on communal lines in Gujarat which he believes will sail him through.

Recent studies have revealed that the development Modi fondly proclaims is an agenda religiously pursued by many state governments and he scores below UP, Tamil Nadu Maharashtra on many indices. I still hold my view Gujarat would flourish Modi or no Modi for by nature they are enterprising. It takes himalyan efforts to bring law in law less Bihar and build infra structure which Nitish has admirably done.

Former President Kalam, till the other day, the poster boy of Sangh Parivar has spilled the beans in his forth coming book. That he was ready to swear in Sonia should she have staked claim for constitutionally he was bound to do so. this negates the claim of BJP and their allies that President Kalam acutually dissuaded Sonia from becoming Prime Minister and not that Sonia relinquished her right as a matter of sacrifice . He also exposed the claims of BJP elements that Vajpayee was above board in Gujarat carnage. Vajpayee has advised Kalam against visting Riot hit Gujarat.

If you take development as the issue, then MP's Chauhan and Chattisgarh's Raman Singh scores well above Modi's Gujarat. This hype about Modi needs to end. That will end when Gujarat voter decides to send him packing this time around for all his arrogance.
