The Maiden Speech

Narendra Damodar DasModi, was elected as leader of BJP Parliamentary party and also the Leader of NDA in a meeting today and he decided to stake claim to form the next Government, which he will do on 26th of this month at 6PM.

Prior to this he was delivering an emotional speech from the very place where Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru addressed the nation on the midnight of 14th August after a long independent struggle led by the greatest Gujarati ofall times, the father of our nation Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi. Modi would have been aware of this sigificance. While Modi was claiming that he is not going to lead the nation rather serve the nation, while he was requesting Mr.Advani not to say it is Modi's kripa( at this the second iron man of India infact was driven by emotion) because a Son can never shower kripa on his mother, while he was claiming that India and BJP are his mothers, while he exhorted his fellow comrades not to forget the thepoorest of the poor who voted for the party, while he acknowleged that those who had ruled before had managed to do some seva to Janatha and just as they did he is also there to do Janseva, he did not think it appropriate to remember the independence movement and its leader MahatmaGandhi. In fact this struck tome only when Kumar Ketkar in a TV Show pointed out the incongruity.Modi claimed that he as a poor man was standing on the podium due to the constitution, he did not ever mention of Gandhi, Nehru or  Ambedkar.

I sensed that Modi's mandate was to deliver an agenda driven by the age old Hindu Rashtramovement led by Rashtriay Swayam Sevak Sangh. He made this clear when he exhorted those present there in the hall to remember that the victory is the result of sacrifices made by 5 generations of leaders of the movement statringfrom erstwhileJansangh. I am not sure whether he mentioned Hindu Mahasabha. But he clearly revealed the battlelines drawn by the RSS.

The panelists which include two other critics of Modi, Actor Shabna Azmi and Sashi Tharoor who concurred that the speech was impressive and was of good intentions with a caveat bY Tharoor that he expected the actions to be matched with the words. Shabna Azmi wanted Modi to revisit Sachar Committee report which has been a major contribution of UPA in bringing forth the misery of majority of Muslims in India for which the community did not adequately reward the party.  The lone dissent with Kumar Ketkar was from corporate honcho turned journalist, author Gurcharan Das. Das defended Modi's skippingof the mentioning of Gandhi, Nehru reminding that it is 2014 and not 1947. and he was addressing the youth ofIndia who are worried about the past. Those who take thisline want us to forget whatever happened inGujarat in 2002 and move on. Well, They would also have to remember the agenda or the unfinished agenda of the Sangh Parivar is to restore Hindu Rashtra. They have never forgotten the past. They have never forgotten the subjugation of Hindu Pride to alien rulers and keep on to avenge and correct the history of India. Those who advocated religious tolerance were portrayed as Desh drohis and traitors and they have taken patent rights to patriotism.

This apart ourNew Prime Minister who is gifted with a flowry oratory few couldmatch both past and present in chaste Hindi - contrasting with theHindi of Atalji who used to quote Urdu couplets as well.(For this Hindutva General Urdu is taboo.) delivered a lecture which was awe inspiring and emotive. If he could translate some of these ideas in to action, may be as he claimed Acha Dhin aye ha hai. That could be true. It is in his hands to make this happen and fulfil the aspirations of allIndians those who voted for and against him
