India Telecom-2008..3G & Chinese invasion-I

Founder of Telecomblogs India

Imagine you visit one of the biggest public event in some industry let's say telecom, and after your visit is over, what you could recall is only some beautiful faces on display, what will you call the event? A success or a failure?

Yes, I am talking about India Telecom 2008, a GOI organized event which is organized every year mostly in December, recently concluded at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Though I couldn't manage to attend the event on first two days, I could visit in on last day i.e Saturday. Despite an holiday the event was sparsely crowded. Sometimes it appeared that, there were more organizers than visitors at some stalls.

Let's see what future holds for Indian Telecom Industry !

With the public launch of 3G in presence of Prime Minister, A. Raja the honorable telecom minister might have successfully demonstrated the promise of 3G, but it appeared that people might turn down this promise if we delay the auction more. The 'Thanda' response of crowd could be an indicator of excitement and awareness among people about 3G.

Surely, the theme of event was "Connecting Rural India" but I couldn't spot any real breakthrough in rural connectivity. There were some good stalls on display by Acme and HBL India, but they appeared to be less user friendly technology. With alternate energy catching up most favored solution , the breakthrough is far from being in-sight. But surely, there is progress towards solving the problems involved in rural technology deployment. Like this HBL Nickel Cadmium battery for Rural extreme conditions, appeared to be attractive solution, cost effectiveness should be checked before it gets deployed into system.

"HBL

There were different categories of solutions developed by HBL India, for each type of deployment, depending upon the need, like Urban, Semi-Urban or rural. The other impressive feature of these solutions are that, they are designed keeping into account the environmental factors associated with deployments.

The other interesting part of the show was hardly known Chinese Companies were showcasing their innovations. Prominently, Shenzhen Gold Power tech or Shen Zhen Plante Power Ltd, along with some big names in the industry like Microtex and Acme.

(I have stopped the post, as I am unable to upload Event Pics to this blog site.)
