Pious Journey to Four Abodes Situated in Himalayan Ranges
Description of journeys is explained below:
Yatra starts form Haridwar and proceed towards Janakchatti from where they will go to Yamunotri.
Yamunotri is the origin place of river Yamuna who is sister of Yamraj. Situated on the western side of Gharwal district is set on an altitude of 3,291 meters above the sea level in Uttarkashi district. Idol of Devi Yamuna is in black color. Devotees have to go to natural thermal springs first, which is also known as Guari Kund, water is hot from sides and cold in middle. People have to take bath and then go to temple for paying obeisance to goddess.
Next stopover is Gangotri situated at a height of 3,100 m above sea level in Uttarkashi District. River Ganga originates from Gaumukh glacier known by the name of Bhagirathi. Later at Devparyag River merges with two of its tributaries namely Mandakini and Alaknanda. Raja Bhaigirath prayed for goddess Ganga to come down on earth from heaven and wash away all sins done by his predecessors. Ganga Ji denied this and monotonous Bhagirath goes to Lord Shiva where he accepted his pray and locked Ganga in his hairs so she can flow in smooth manner.
Kedarnath is the third holy shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the most angelic jyotirlingam among 11 jyotirlingam. Pandavas paid penance after hilarious Mahabharata war for what they have done during that time. This is the most remote shrine located in Garhwal’s Rudraprayag district situated on Mandakini river banks.
Badrinath is last destination of yatra, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and it is situated in Chamoli district. Alaknanda River is flowing nearby the divine temple and its surrounding areas. Temple was constructed by Adi Shankracharya in 9th century when he found Shaligram (black stone) near a Badri Tree and then place got its name Badrinath which means ‘Badri means ber tree’ and ‘Nath means lord’.
