If you have ever sat down during promotion appraisal in your organization, you may have heard concerns such as; will he fit in, will he get along with people, will he cooperate with others.  And the final “YES” to the promotion reflects sum total of the “YES”  reflecting the  concerns raised.

In an organization it’s not only professional skills that get you promotion but the people skills that play a vital role.  The research says that social skills can be learned and built up, the research also proofs that CHARISMA can be built too.  In a famous study, 34 middle level executives were trained for the next 90 days and thereafter an opinion was taken from variety of people.  The answer was resounding YES to their enhanced CHARISMA.

Many of the famous personalities have authored books on the subject, books such How to win friends and influence people”;  “What got you here will not get you there”  and “The magic of thinking big.”   Numerous leaders proactively practice such skills.  And I will share “7” powerful skills that can be practiced to achieve impact and make a difference in your life and life of others.

  1. Name: Practice to remember the names of people around you;  Call them by name and measure the difference in their intensity.
  2. Take the first step to build friendship foundation: Take the first step to introduce yourself.  If you observe the most connected  person; you will observe he takes the first step to introduce, that is reflection of their confidence and self respect.
  3. Compliment: Make it a practice to compliment people you meet.  Let that be a sincere compliment and to do so become a keen observer of qualities and activities that can be the target of your compliments.
  4. Feedback: Help your friends and colleagues gain from your sincere and informal feedback.  They may not appreciate in the beginning but over a period of time they will begin to value your wisdom and advice.
  5. Be a good listener:  Encourage others to talk about them, don’t interrupt and don’t extend your opinion when listening to others.
  6. Ask questions instead of giving direct orders: Ask their opinion and help them make feel that it is their decision.
  7. Smile: Smile is the shortest distance between the two people.
