High CAT percentile no declaration for IIMs Call

A high CAT percentile does not mean an certain admission to the popular and prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIM).

With the admission criteria at IIMs now focusing on work knowledge, academic background, inclination to women candidates and written aptitude test, student’s way after in CAT scores can also get a seat in one of the IIMs.

In addition, IIM-Rohtak and Udaipur that have given 55% and 50% weightage to CAT scores, the other 11 IIMs have kept the CAT score weightage under 50%. Students with more than one call from IIMs are preparing according to the different criteria set by individual IIMs.

Another student, Aman Gupta, who got calls from IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta is finding it more challenging to show for interviews.

"In these changing circumstances, we have to contest on different fronts," said Aman Gupta.

For example, IIM Ahmedabad has given 30% weightage to CAT score and 70% weightage to personal interview which besides the candidate's concert in the interview will include his/her academic background, achievements in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and post-degree work experience.

Over 50 students from Jaipur received calls from IIM Ahemdabad, Bangalore and Calcutta. Saurabh Bagla from the city, who scored 99.88% got calls from IIM-Ahmedabad,  Banglore, Calcutta, Lucknow and Kozikode. "With the inclusion different parameters, I have to focus on a wide array of subjects. I am hopeful that my academic background and work experience will get me some extra credits at the admission level," added Bagla.

IIM-Udaipur, besides 50% weightage to CAT score, is giving 30% weightage to personal interview and aptitude test and 20% to the student's profile which includes academic performance, work experience, preference to female and non-engineer candidates.

Those students preparing for interviews at IIM Banglore and Calcutta have to keep in mind 20% and 35% weightage to CAT scores respectively. They will also be conducting written aptitude tests with a weightage of 15% and 7% for Bangalore and Calcutta respectively.

Experts suggest that students should not be over-confident because of high scores. "They should brush up on their knowledge of current affairs and do proper research on them. They also should have detailed information about various dimensions and aspects of the same topic," saidS Kotari, faculty member for management at the Rajasthan University.
