UGC postpones form submission date as NET runs into online glitch

After many students complained of not being able to log on to the site of the National Eligibility Test (NET) to fill the exam form, the University Grants Commission (UGC) postponed the last dates for the submission of the forms. Initially, April 30 was the deadline for submission of forms online. It has now been postponed to May 2. The last date for submission of hard copies of forms is now May 9.

Students first found out that the website for not working on Wednesday. Abhijit Patil, a student of Pune University said, “For some reason, I had not been able to fill the earlier. On Wednesday when I logged on to the site, it said that he server was down. The site had been like that till Saturday. Only today did I see on the UGC website that the dates for online and hard copy submissions had been extended.”

Thousands of students from University of Pune (UoP) appear for the NET exam every year. The SET Bhawan located at the university campus manages the exam and form submission. G S Chinchanikar, co-ordinator of the exam at UoP, said, “Several students come to the campus to submit the forms. We did not receive any complaint from the students but we did come to know that the website server was down.”

Chinchanikar said, “We don’t know the exact reason why website stopped working. Normally, in the last few days, several students log on to the site and the server cannot take the load at times. The UGC may have received complaints from students, and extended the dates.” The exam is scheduled on June 24.
