Discussing topics lively

Software Engineer
Time to time, I see people including my colleagues and friends walking into meetings and open discussions with a weird face and waking out spitting out frustration of the hour. This is a very common sight in most of our work places and even home societies. There are many opinions and ideas that have already been discussed on how to make discussions interesting for the attendees. I had heard a lot about how to make a discussion lively and interesting for its attendees. An interesting fact about our minds is that most of us walk into a meeting with perceptions already set. There is nothing really wrong about keeping a perception. The real issue occurs when we keep our minds wrapped inside that perception. It is then, that we find it unable to find interest in other people’s ideas and words. A difficult thing to practice, though not impossible!

Perception is one thing that we humans do not get control on. I have seen many a times and also felt the same, that we make and stick on to a perception on a topic, is it known to us or not. I have wondered on how one can keep a perception about something that he is not aware about, or known till now, but that is how most of us humans are. Said that, I am not intending to offend or hurt feelings of any one. There are people who have great control on it. But most of us are not and that is why we need to prevent our perceptions grow into levels where we lose interest on what we were really interested in! How can we get rid of our mind revolving around our own perceptions and get back into the state where we can take inputs from others ideas? One way to do that is to stop relating with and against, those ideas that come into us from other people. In that way we can grasp in ideas from other people and get involved more into discussions.

Diverting the topic at times help discussions to be kept lively. This is a technique that many of the known presenters use to keep the attendees interested. This helps the minds of the public go out of the topic under discussion and refreshes it to regain the interest. It helps them gain more attention by making people think of the topic that has been discussed a small time earlier. One thing that needs care is to control the diversion introduced. If not, the whole topic will be lost and what will be left out will be a hundred minds left out in different directions. So taking back the path is really important in such an adaptation.

Mingling in more with the different people in the discussion is another good way to make discussions lively. This helps to gain more presence into the discussion. Many a times it has helped presenters to gain respect among the crowd and take their interest into the topic discussed. But this to work needs openness in minds of the attendees as well. It could be possible in discussions where the attendees are lesser in number; else it can raise issues by creating groups within the crowd. Bringing in humour into the discussion could be another way that we can catch diverted minds back into the conversation. This helps participants or attendees to get more close and thereby break the wall that separates the thoughts.

There are many more methods that could be inherited to make lively discussions. One thing that we need to keep in our minds is that discussions or meetings are places where multiple minds think together and it should be driven correctly in order to reach the destined target.
