Visa Guidance for Students Planning to Study Abroad

You need a visa to enter a foreign country. A visa is a grant of permission to enter any foreign country. Students planning to study abroad needs to apply for a student visa after they are admitted to a college or university abroad. You have to keep in mind that getting acceptance in an institution does not guarantee that you will be issued a student visa. The procedures and requirements needed for applying to a student visa differ from one country to another and undoubtedly, they are more complex and demanding in some countries than others.

The entrance requirements that apply to any country are as follows:
•    You must be healthy. No inoculations are required to enter the foreign country, unless you were recently in a country with epidemics such as cholera and yellow fever. HIV positive people are not allowed to enter the country.
•    You must be law-abiding. Criminal behavior is grounds for deportation.
•    During your stay, you must be able to support yourself financially.
•    You must intend to leave the country after completing your studies.

There are several things to increase your chances of a favorable visa decision:
•    Start the process at least 2 months in advance of your departure date.
•    Assemble all the documentation that can help you make your case.
•    Make sure you are well-prepared if you are required to attend an interview.

Various types of visa are there for every country, for example USA has F1, J1 and M1 and Australia has seven types, you can choose from it depending upon your circumstances.

If you have the necessary resources for studying in the US/UK/AUS, the foreign student advisor will send you a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant [F-1] Student Status in US) or offer letter (UK, ASU, CANADA etc). Submit this form with your application for a student visa to the respective embassy or consulate.

You will also have to provide proof of proficiency in English unless if you are enrolling for a language program. You will need a Non-Immigrant Visa form available from consular offices. You will need a valid passport, a 1-1/2 inch square photograph (37mm x 37mm) showing full face against a light background and the visa processing fee.
