Great organizations require great peopoe. It requires greater systems, processes, culture and organizational structures. It is not easy to create. You can make mediocre organization – copy other organizations, and you can create them. Great organizations require pain.
Let us understand what will constitute a great organization. It is important to understand the process of great organization, so that we can create and transform an organization to geatness. Since it is a very difficult task to create a great organization, it is even more difficult task to sustain at that level.
Organizations consists of people with certain belief system, processes and structures. The processes, systems and structure of the organizations differentiate the organization from other organizations. The better these processes, the better will be the organization.
Steps:
The first process in the organization is recruitment – where we take people in our organization and structure a relationship among people Subsequently, we have to put systems in place, which can define the type of relationship between people. We have to select those people, who realy understand what we want. We have to take people who can internalize our vision, mission, values and who can create unison that will make the organization look like a team.
People may be different in terms of their background, ideas, education, training etc. but they should have the capability and willingness to create a fusion. A fusion, which can make them a part of a larger fabric – called organization.
Organization has certain processes – like communication process, leadership process, motivation process etc. these processes make organization distinctive and outperforming. Let us focus on each of these proceses and try to make this process great so that we can achieve our purpose. These processes are :
Communication process: let us improve the quality of communication process. In order to improve communication process, we have to create an environment of trust, support, mutual guidance, openness, transparency, sharing, mutual respect and common ideal, vaulues, mission and purpose. The root of the word communication is common – thus communication will improve if we are able to create more and more commonness among people. The more the common-ness the better will be the performance. Quality of communication depends on our ability to understand and reciprocate to each other.
Motiation process: motivation refers to the extent to which we are able to motivate each other, create incentive for excellence, and create superorgdinate goals. It depends on encouragement to excellence and support to excellence. It is not individual – but the excellence that should be important in all our dealings in the organization. We have to create a system – where we nurture excellence. We have to enable people to set benchmarks and achieve excellence.
Leadership process: the extent to which we are able to influence each other. In great organizations, people influence each other. They are connected to each other. They have great power over each other. People care for each other, respect each other and are influenced by each other. Ordinary people will become extraordinary when they join great organizations. Extraordinary people will become mediocre, if they join mediocre organizations. In order to establish great leadership, we have to create an environment of mutual connectivity, cohesion, informal interaction, good human relations and mutual support and influence. We have to create clariy regarding goals and concern for people in order to create an environment of leadership. Each of the employee should be encouraged to become leader. We don’t have to create followers, but true leaders – those who are able to influence each other – impact each others and are true impact making.
Types of organizational excellence: We can find various types of excellence in organizations. We can find missionary exceelence in organizations like brahma kumaris, we can find professional excellence in organizations like McKinsey.
