I keep getting request for mentorship not only through Silicon India website, but largely in the course of my work which is closely related to Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurs are people with unique quality. Entrepreneurship oght not to be mixed up with not getting employment in the formal sector. The attitutde towards entrepreneurship varies from region to region. One must realise that  very large numbers of start-ups in IT and Plant Biotech (a much smaller number in Pharma) has occured in Southern states of Andhra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Does it not follow that the knowledge eco-system has taken roots there? For most of you who may not be aware that government support in these industries in the formative stages were non-existant. Even today there is hardly any low cost infrastucture support by the government. There was no effective lobby and yet today it happens to be the single largest employer in the knowledge domain.

It is unfortunate that students in Technical institutes are aware of only some 10 names of top companies in this field. I suggest that they keep track through a team effort of some of the medium size companies that are working in the 'cutting edge'.

It is such innovation that would lead to vibrant economy across the country, provided people across have clear strategies in place. And the best examples can be found in the 3 states of Southern India.
