Does Chetan Bhagat deserve a story credit for 3 Idiots?
It’s been days since author Chetan Bhagat and makers
of 3 Idiots have been engaged in a verbal row. Both claim they are behind the
story of 3 Idiots. Bhagat claims since almost 70% of the film is based on his
book ‘Five Point Someone’ he deserves a credit for the story of the film along
with Abhijat Joshi and Raj Kumar Hirani while Hirani and gang claim only
Abhijat Joshi deserves the story credit for the film as it is his hard work,
besides key scenes of the film have not been taken from the book. Chetan feels
the credit given to him in the closing credits of the film is not enough and
that he should be acknowledged in the opening credits as well for the story of
the film right after Abhijat’s name. Chetan believes no matter the alterations
in the screenplay, at the end of the day the basic foundation of 3 Idiots is
his book and thus he deserves the story credit as well. Hirani disagrees with
Bhagat’s claims saying, “We have officially bought the rights for the film. We
drew a contract with Chetan and it clearly mentions about the position of his
credit. With open eyes he had seen the contract, consulted his lawyer and
signed the agreement. We haven't changed the font size. We haven't increased
the speed of the title. It's exactly there where it was agreed to be.
