Can we get some IPO’s now?
That post was referring to American scenario. I want a look at Indian scenario. Do you remember 2006 and 2007 and may be 2008 too? If you are reading the papers or traveling or living anywhere in the civilized world, then you might have heard the remarkable Bull Run India has seen and how people earned a lot from the IPO’s.
There were IPO’s scams (Yes Bank), which have a problem with allotment of the shares. There were IPO’s, which gave 200% returns in the first 5 minutes of trading (vishal retail). There were very few IPO’s, which did not give listing gains. Back in those days if secondary market is silver, IPO is gold.
Then came 2008 and Reliance Power. It was one of biggest IPO’s, which mopped up 11000 odd crores from the market. It was the last successful IPO. The success is not for the listing gains but the subscription and the amount the company has gathered. Many companies like Emar MGF has to pull out their IPO’s due to lack of investor interest.
After that, very few IPO’s came. The recent Bull Run (if we can call it that) has seen an insane 17% rise of Sensex in a matter of few seconds. That begs for this question. Will the investors trust in IPO’s too?
Most of the companies have shelved their IPO plans because of the recession. Looks like that is behind us. Will the companies start tapping the markets?
With the new government will we see some IPO’s from our PSU’s?
